United States: National Do Not Call Registry
While the DNC list is not growing at the same rate as when it first launched in 2003, more and more people are signing up every day. At the end of 2010, the FCC report estimates approximately 672 million phone numbers are assigned to a person or company. The FTC also estimates that over 183 million numbers were on the National Do Not Call list by 2010. From these numbers, it is estimated that over 25% of the assigned phone numbers in the US are signed up for the National Registry. A report by the Bush Administration in 2007 estimates that up to 72% of Americans had registered on the list. During the same period, the CTIA estimates approximately 303 million of those phone numbers were wireless meaning that approximately 45% of issued numbers are wireless. While wireless numbers do not need to be included on the registry to avoid unsolicited calls, consumers may still add their wireless number to the list. FCC regulations prohibit the use of automatic dialers from calling cellular numbes under any circumstance. Learn more about the Do Not Call list including how to sign up. Since 2005, any number added to the Natiional Registry will remain unless the number becomes invalid, disconnected, reassigned, or the owner of the number requests removal.
Popularity by State
The map below shows the number of registrations on the DNC list per 100k residents as of Sept 2016.
Recorded Messages: The Rise of the Robocall
While the growth of new registrations has slowed, the number of complaints filed is growing every year. Over 5 million complaints were filed with the FTC in 2016 - more than ever before.
On September 1, 2009, the National Registry began accepting all complaints regarding calls using a recorded message, regardless of the registration status of the called number. As you can see from the graphs below, a great deal of those complaints were filed against auto-dialed calls that play a recorded message (aka. robocalls). While around 43% of complaints reported in 2010 were due to robocalls, that percentage skyrocketed over the next few years to 64% in 2016.

* Stats are only available prior to Oct 2016. The remainder of the year is estimated.
The DNC list will not stop all unsolicited calls. The following types of calls are still legal.
- The registry applies to residential lines only (no business lines can be registered)
- Calls from political organizations
- Calls from non-profits
- Calls for surveys
- Calls from companies which the consumer contacted in the past 31 days unless the company is asked not to call
- Calls from debt collectors
Canada: National Do Not Call List
The Canadian Do Not Call list has been administered by the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC) since 2006. Like the DNC list in the US, phone numbers do not need to be resubmitted, but there are exemptions for some unsolicited calls like charities, political organizations, pollsters, and businesses with a prior relationship just like in the US. In addition to registering with the national list, Canadians are encouraged to request to be added to each internal company's list of numbers not to call each time they receive an unwanted call. United Kingdom: Telephone Preference Service (TPS)
The TPS was introduced in 2009 and revised in 2003. It is regulated by the Office of Communications (Ofcomm), enforced by the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), and run by the Direct Marketing Association (DMA). Like the Do Not Call lists of the US and Canada, resubmitting or renewing a number already on the list is not necessary. Unlike other countries, the TPS prohibits charities, voluntary organizations, and political parties from making calls to numbers on the TPS with prior consent to do so. However, exceptions do exist for debt collectors. They are not required to screen the numbers that they call through the TPS. Learn more about the Telephone Preference Service including how to sign up.
Caller name: Windows scam
They claim you have a problem with your computer and than trick you into giving them access by making the issue very serious. If your not a computer person than you might fall for it. Then when they get access they won't give it back to you until you pay them.
Caller name: IRS
Keeps calling my cell.
States IRS is filing a law suit against me.
Must contact them right away.
Then I called the number, a Indian female answered. Saying they are investigating me. I asked why does it sound so weird behind her? What country is she calling me from?
She then played an automated US as the answer.
Do not trust.
I received several calls from this number in the past month but now I decided to file a complaint.
Caller name: www.premierseoleads.com
Please Identify yourself as YOU are FULL of s**t
I do ZERO cold calling
Caller name: Lombardo , Daniels and Moss
Said they had a claim against me called from1-844-880-0622 but it sounded like a recording. Told me I had to call 1-877-9342 to speak to a lawyer or they would contact the district attorneys office
Caller name: Asia Pacific
I answered, and had to ask the woman to repeat herself, as I couldn't understand her. Then I thought she told me she would send me a free bottle of baby oil. Told her I had no babies. She then said CANNABIS oil. I foolishly told her no thank you. (I live in CA, so it's legal here.)
This number keeps calling and then hangs up, never leaving any messages. We had talked to them initially declined their sales pitch for fixing our computer. I put them on the no call list, but they are still calling from different numbers. Where is the protection from these from these abusive electronic panhandlers?
An unwanted call from this Mill Valley VOIP number arrived today. When the answering machine picked up, the caller left no message, just dead space. Robocallers (unlawful telemarketers) do this all the time while trolling the phone lines seeking gullible schmucks to victimize,
DO NOT BE VICTIMIZED BY THESE TELECRIMINALS. LET YOUR ANSWERING MACHINE TAKE THEIR PATHETIC CALLS.
Caller name: no company name given
The calls leaving a recording message started at 9:00 am on March 20 and persisted at half hour intervals until 8:00 pm; continuing the next day in the same fashion. The message: "We installed security software on your computer last year. There has been a major security breach. Call 1 800-847-5103 to have us correct the problem."
On March 22 with the calls persisting, I did call the above 800 number. A male voice answered. I requested that he have my phone number removed from their data base. he hung up on me On March 23, I noted that my telephone screen was showing 14 digit international telephone numbers when they called with the same recording , for example: U32118422800102; U32120201900102. No number was exactly the same, each differing by 2 or 3 digits.
Using redial, I called one of the U numbers which was answered by a individual with an accent on his broken English I could not identify, " You must not call this number!" before he hung up. I then called the 800 number, and was answered by a young female voice who seemed to be peddling something other than software. I asked her to remove my number from her database, and she laughed before hanging up. Using redial on my phone, I then resorted to tying up at least one agent for the next 2 hours , trying to get a response from my phone. After two hours, they must have put a blocker on my phone, because eventually my redial calls were not accepted.
Today, I thought I was clear of the annoyance until I got a call at 1:30 pm. If the calls persist, I will give them my re-dial treatment again.
Yet another call from this Sherman Oaks VOIP number, 7 months and 3 weeks since the last call on Aug. 1, 2016. Once again, when the call rolled to voice mail, the caller left no message, but there was "boiler room" noise in the background before the caller hung up. Looks like this robocaller is trolling the phone lines, seeking gullible schmucks to victimize, after a 7-month hiatus. DO NOT BE VICTIMIZED BY THESE TELECRIMINALS. LET YOUR ANSWERING MACHINE TAKE THEIR PATHETIC CALLS.
Caller name: Smile Train
Smile Train calls me every day with a different 866-***-**** number. I've blocked them as they change numbers, but the very next day they call from a new 866- number. I've never donated to them and don't plan to. Just want the calls to stop!
Caller name: ukn person / online solutions
EVERY DAY, I get calls from this number at least 25-30 xs PER DAY. I have blocked their number but they can still leave messages on my phone and ONLY leave their phone number which is 1-800-847-5103
Caller name: intelligible, unknown number
360-562-9343 is the "call back" number to receive a "free" grant of $9,000. A grant number is provided but it sounds like a way to try and get bank account information (so the $9,000 can be deposited).
Caller name: Canada revanue

Caller name: Self - Private Cell Phone
Has called my cell phone several time since I ran an ad on Craigslist. And he wants to sell my vehicle for $200. I am blocking his number but how do we stop this ding-a-ling from wasting my cell phone minutes with an unsolicited call?
I received a message and called back to get my number removed and was spoken to with vulgarity. On the message it claimed that there was a warrant for my arrest. I didn't believe it but I worry about the people that will believe it and that will have consequences because of it.
District of Columbia
Caller name: Medical Alert Specialist
Received a call on the Operator phone at work today from this number. The first question asked was "Can you hear me okay" I believe this to be one of the Scam phone calls. I did not answer, just hung up the phone.
Caller name: Survey Informelec
Calling my home at 7:30 a.m. asking who I voted for! None of their business! When called back, recording states to call customer service and have number removed, however, there IS NO custumer service number. These people are sickening!!!
We are getting 2 to 3 calls per day from this number. We do not answer their calls. We are elderly and find this abusive and an invasion of our privacy. We pay our phone bill and can selevt who we wish to communicate with and this number is not one of our
Choices. They should be made to stop this immediately.
Caller stated he was my grandson, Michael, and was visiting his friend, David. I could tell by his voice he was fishing for information. I asked him how old he was on last birthday, because I had forgotten. He said 21. I then told him I had no grandson named Michael who was 21 and I would be reporting his number (caller ID) to the police (which I did). He then said a vulgar remark and hung up.
Caller name: Invesco?
I selected "unknown" because I won't even go near the handset when I see this number 2-3 times a day. Another poster said it was Invesco calling about proxy votes. I do have funds with them but when I get a call from them (which comes from another number), they leave a message. The calls from 781-298-2820 do not leave a message. Very thankful for caller ID.
This (855) 839-5234 is NOT an official number for the company Pitney Bowes!! Please BEWARE and DO NOT give them any information. If it is a legit call from Pitney Bowes their company name WILL SHOW on caller ID. Also the caller may have a name or two of ones that work in your office but this is STILL A SCAM, they are able to somehow collect "inside info" to make them appear to be actually from Pitney Bowes. Hang up hang up immediately!!
Caller name: Asia Pacific

This SCAMMER is now using Gmail - ShNia20166@gmail.com. This SCAMMER contacted me through Gumtree. This SCAMMER wants me to send money to Nigeria though Western Union. His excuse was "I usually help an old lady to help her sell her stuff".
Caller name: Jason with some kind of foundation
I picked up, he said he was Jason with 'mutter mutter' Foundation. When I asked him to repeat what he said he hung up. When I tried redialing that number it did not go through.
This phone number calls several times a day. They do not let it ring long enough for me to answer yet when I call back they are not available. Recording says, " the number you called is not a working number" and that is very much a lie! They are harassing me and I know they are some type of telemarketing individuals from other complaints.
Hope the FCC stops this soon!

Got a call from a caller named Joe. Knew my 1st name telling me he had a confirmation number for a 3500k charge on my MasterCard. I said I don't have one and he did it was for my Citibank MasterCard, well I told him to piss off and hung up. I called back and the said Legal Aid Services, asked for my case number...well long story short he said they called me because of a pending court case or lawsuit. I just hung up. Called Citibank and they have no record of them calling me. Surely a scam to get cc info. People who file lawsuits send letters, often certified and debt collectors generally identify themselves as such.
Caller name: Jonathan
Got a call saying they were from Universal Processing -- a credit card processing company. They told me that I was going to have a charge of $2,796 posted to my cc at midnight. When I told them it must be fraud (because I have had my identity stolen before), they put me through to "the supervisor" who then put me on hold several times while "trying to figure out" what the charge was for. He ultimately told me that I was being charged for a vacation package that I supposedly signed up for three years ago with the Radisson and never took. He had my name, address and first 4 digits of my cc#. I did not give him any other personal information. When I told him that I never signed up for any vacation package and didn't know what he was talking about, he put me on hold again and then I got disconnected. I called the number back and got a message saying "I am sorry that I am not able to take your call right now but please, please leave me a message and I will call you back." The message did not identify a person or a company name, so definitely a scam!!!
Caller name: Xtend XR
Perhaps you are new to Xtend XR right now and are not certain of which products are the best. OK, "Old habits die hard." I've not included this on Xtend XR as a guide. I am not mentioning that just about that either and there are numerous examples. We've been as busy as a bear in a beehive. This only leaves the Xtend XR if and when that works. You wouldn't sense of a store dedicated entirely to Xtend XR. Why should I go through that effort for Xtend XR? I am trying to get away from Xtend XR.

I don't know who it was, he asked if this was x@x#x* Ranch, when I replied that it was, he was giggling and sounded like a drunken mexican. I hung up, didn't try to call back and have had no calls since then. But that was only yesterday? What is with that?
