I suspect it is a credit card scam call -- did not answer. Past such calls begin with "There is no problem with your cred card balance now, but....
At that point I hang up. Now I wait for a voicemail before considering it being anything other than some snot-nosed rip-off person.
Hang up call on my VOIP - a web search indcates the number is in Big Bear, CA, a city I recognize as home to some scam artists as mentioned in previous posts here. Hang up calls are usually auto-dialer or robo caller calls where the machine hangs up if there is no telemarketer immediately available when a live human answers or if the machine recognizes the "signature" of an answering machine.
Others here have indicated they don't answer unknown callers - I take that one step fruther and put a "Special Information Tone" - those musical tones when you reach a number that is out of service - at the beginning of my voice mail - most auto-dialers, robo machines and even most live telemarketers hang up and automatically take your number off their list when they hear those tones. You can down load a plehtoria of those tones off the web - just do a search for "Special Informaion Tones" - Although Wikipedia has a nice story, I like
Good luck - OH, if all else fails and you keep getting unwelcome calls from the same sources, there are also "amulance chasers" - lawyers - who will sue telemarketers and bill collectors for free - but you have to document the violations of the "Telephone Consumer Protection Act" first -but if you do that, you can collect up to $1,000 or more for each infraction.
I reported this caller before - Howefer, since I employed my little "trick" - I rarely get any more unwanted calls - at least not very often and very seldom any repeat calls. Here's a way to make them go away, at least for a little while. Please see my help page at http://www.gabbyjim.com/Do-Not-Call-Farce.htm. (Case Sensitive, trust me!) No worries, nothing harmful there - I don't even count visits. I wrote the page myself just because I was ticked at all the folks out there breaking the law and scaming the system. I don't even have any affilliate marketing there - yet (10/1/2012) - although I may, in the future, put a few ads there to try to pay for the hosting - and I may add a visit counter just to see if I am doing any good.
Caller name: Republican scam
1st Call fm Pomona was for Charter, second call said they were calling fm Washington DC and asking stupid political questions. I asked to be put on the "Do Not Call" list and hung up. Doesn't seem to help, though. :(
