Same as everyone else. It seems to go in cycles We get calls once or twice a day forabout a week straight, then nothing for a few months. Then it starts over again.

Spread the word and let your state Attorney General know all the information they left on your voice message. Unfortunately it is easy to fake a caller ID, so that is of no help. It would be incredibly easy for any law enforcement agency to run a sting on these people and round them all up and prosecute them. Unfortuntately, it appears that those who are responsible for enforcing the credit laws must be in bed with folks like this or this same scam from the same people wouldn't still be going on.

If anyone has fallen victim to this and has actually sent them money via mail or wire, post their address, bank info, etc. here and everyone reverse the scam by sending them envelopes with only their address on it as both the "to" and "from" address with one cent of postage and write "payment enclosed" on the envelope. If they want to receive the payment, they will have to pay the post due to open the envelope with a blank piece of paper in it. That would serve them well.

Called me from 913-698-8565 gave me a case # and said that I needed to call 888-278-8565 or face legal action. I called the number and wanted me to leave a message. I didn't but I am sure they are just trying to get unwarranted money from me.

I received several calls with messages prompting me to call within 48 hours to avoid litigation against me. I did respond several times, but did not speak to any representative. I answered my cell once only to have a female operator put me on hold, before threatening me by saying, "See you in court" after I refused to give her any information and said, "You called me! Tell me what this is in regards to." Finally after approximately a week of harassing phone calls, I answered again, gave the 'file number', only to have the oblivious female operator respond, "That's not a case file ..." Click. I redialed. She asked if I knew a specific female's name (Lisa Kennedy or Lisa Candy or Lisa Canny). I responded "Who?" a few times repeating the name. She finally said, "This is a wrong number. Have a nice day." Click. I have since reported the numbers and incidents to the Illinois Better Business Bureau.

Got a call on Wednesday from this John Spencer telling me everything that previous posters have said. word for word. Being the victim of a collection scam in the past I thought I would be smarter this time and check things out before I even think about calling this idiot back. Good thing I did, I found this website. now I think I know for sure that is another scam artist so I am not returning their call. All I do know is that people like this need to be stopped and people need to be warned so that these scammers fail at their intentions.

Thanks,,

Was told it was from Bank of America trying to collect 1500. and it was gonna cost me 4000. to take care of it. I told them that we had filed Bankruptcy a couple years ago, her response was I'll tell them. It's a scam or something wrong with this. Oh and the card was from 2007

I have received multiple calls from John Spencer ( canned message also) claiming I owe over 2000.00 on a visa. I did not have a visa in the year in question. I initially told them to go ahead and file the cout papers since I knew it was a scam. They tried to intimidate me but weren't successful. Apparently their idea of 48 hours is different than mine since they've called me twice a week for 3 weeks. I finally called them back yesterday and repeatedly asked for their physical address. They refused to give it to me. I told them I was calling the attorney general and they hung up. SCAM.

I received a message from JOHN SPENCER claiming he was from Arbitration Resolution and warning me about possible litigation pending against me. He advised me that I had 48 hours to respond. Failure to respond would result in a formalize complaint with my residing county.

I found this to be very upsetting at the time because I had just be released from the hospital and this added to my already stressful situation. I contacted a personal friend who is a lawyer in another state and asked him to look into it for me. The first thing he said was that it could be a scam.

I finally got the courage to confront the situation.

Called last week, left a message, same message as above. "Press 9 to talk to and 'agent', gave a case number and the 888-278-8565 number to call. I called and actually got through on first time. I said the message was left for someone who didn't live here...she said she would take my number off the list. They called again today, left same message. I have called multiple times to just hear what they have to say. No answer. started looking into the phone number and I am very glad to see all of this information about these dirt bags! Thank you so much to all of you who shared this. I wait their return call with anticipation! How do they get all of this info on us? If they have social security numbers...how does that happen?

I received a call from a number with a different area code that told me to call the 888-278-8565 number. I did call and they told me about court summons for fraud and breach of contract with a payday loan that I had included in banktruptcy and it was discharged. Without checking to make sure that it was discharged I allowed them to scare me into paying $100 towards a supposed $900 settlement. After this I received many calls from other numbers for the same thing all threatening me with court summons, etc. So when the other company was to receive a payment again and they found out the payment was declined because I cancelled my card, they called me and said that if I didn't make a payment that they didn't know when, but John Spencer would be handing me court summons for court. I told her that I contacted CashCall personally, which I did, and they advised me that in fact my account was closed and I did not owe them anything and that it was charged off with bankruptcy. I explained about what was happening and they said they have had other complaints as well. When I told her this she got smart with me and told me that they were retained by CashCall to collect, which I have found is against the law to collect on a debt that was discharged on bankruptcy. This Allison got smart with me and told me "Well, then have the person from CashCall represent you in court!!". These people really need to be stopped. I guess that they figured out that I found out that they are scammers. She had the nerve to tell me that this was not a scam. But the same number is popping up everywhere on the internet with the same threats. This time though they called from 888-794-2763.

Called 888-278-8565 back in regards to voicemail on MY cell phone. Said they were calling for my Husband on an account that he opened up 14 years ago waaay before we met. So I proceeded to ask him how he got my number, and his response was: We received it from the company that has asked us to obtain this LONG TIME debt....SO let me get this straight, My husband opened up an account in NY, (We now live in IL) with my phone number that is an IL cell phone back in 2000 when we hadn't even met yet? We started dating in 2005 when he moved here from NY..... Yeah ok. They basically get info about past due collections and then phish for the rest hoping to get paid money that is not legally theirs. This account was paid off in 2003. He claims that he has removed my number from their records.....
Be careful. They are liars.

Everything I've read about this is so true...it's a total SCAM!
Long story short - no one answered at the 888 # so I called the local number back, the guy was a total d**k. He did have some correct information about me but it was super strange. I asked him for a day to look into it and he got pissed, he told me I was making him late because he was getting on a flight that day and I told him that I thought he was lying...then he HUNG UP ON ME!!
Once I started doing some research I'm sooo glad that I didn't pay him. It does sound convincing, especially when he threatening you with court and lawyers.

These people call a few weeks twice. Once it showed a local #, second time it was an Arizona #. I called and they claimed I owe Back loan to Cash Call and I was in default status. I told them the payments had been going to a law firm since March 2009 and I have a balance of $100 which will be paid off this month. I'll gave them the law firm information. I called the law firm and was told to ignore those people. I called AR back and was told I had nothing to worry about since I had kept my payment agreement. Did I mentioned that Cash Call and their associates were sued last December for illegal loan transactions and trying to sue past customers for loans that were paid off? Today, I got another call from this so called John Spencer telling me to call within 48 hrs and good luck with a different act #. Do they think people are stupid?

I also have received four calls leavening a message I needed to call them because in 48 hrs there would be charges filed against me, I just laffed at it n blocked the number. This was on my cell phone to say the least. They have called my mother saying the same thing. They even called the home I'm livening in. THE FCC N GOVERNMENT SHOULD CRACK DOWN ON THESE PEOPLE AND ANY ONE THAT DOES THIS !!!!!!! The people doing this are targeting the unaware and the elderly. For each time they call me there are at least 10 others that will fall prey to this scam !!!! They monitor our phones so it should be extremely easy to find these people , they tract the cell towers to see where calls are coming from so they know a radius of where they are. Oh we'll only time will tell if anything is done about all these thieves. Thank you for reading this

Do not talk to these people nor call them back. If they have legal action you will receive something in writing from your local Courts. Remember EVERYTHING in writing. You will have time to dispute it in writing and ALWAYS request the original debt information should they produce some bogus debt (doubtful they will do this) they are targeting people that they can scare. I like the idea that 'Anonymous' has, lets all call and hang up all day long, anytime we have a free moment, just call..LOL If they call you to tell you to stop calling do not answer it because all you will do is argue. You cannot reason with uneducated idiots and a liar...

John Spencer left a message about legal action being filed in my County if issue not resolved within 40 hours. You can tell it is a recording. They said to call back at 888 278-8565. They have called several times on different dates. I never answer numbers I do not recognize and I know I have no unpaid debts so I haven't spoken with them. I also do a yearly credit report and nothing shows up that someone has used my information and ran up past debt. So they are wasting their time with my call.

Well, I called the number & left them a message ... "By law, everyone is supposed to have a debt presented to them in written form. It must detail who is alleging the owed debt, the service rendered, date, amount, etc. If this is legit, then I expect to see it in written form for my attorney to examine!" No return call. I am tired of these scammers trying to collect based on fear. I have had enough of this and wonder if anyone here knows how these people got their information in the first place. Any ideas? I for one csn only think of three ways this might have happened. 1) a recent bankrupcy was filed and discharged in the last couple of years and someone somehow has gotten a list somewhere in Los Angeles court system. 2) security breach through the internet where we have given our info to the wrong proccessor/company. 3) a business mixer where these guys are soliciting business and pretending to be a legal aid company. I for one think the latter one could be how they got my info. I'm not sure but these calls started soon after networking at one of L.A.'s biggest business mixer. I wish I could gind this out and if anyone here did the same so we can take this scam to a news reporter and uncover their scam to the world.

Please let me know guys if you have an idea of how these scammers work or how they got your info in the first place. Thanks!

I called back from my corporate work number so they wouldn't know who I was & I very calmly asked for a name & mailing address for the company so I could research them with the BBB. David got very irritated with me & demanded that I give him my case number. I told him that if he was from a legitimate company that he should have no issue providing me with some simple information. He replied very defensively "How would you feel if someone randomly called you asking for your personal information?!? I'm not giving you anything until you idntify who you are" I told him that wasn't going to happen & he hung up on me.

There was a message from the infamous John Spencer. He had a case number and said I must respond in 48 hours or they will take action in my residing county.
I was instructed to call 1-888-278-8565. When I did , I was answered by some woman who told me my 9 year old credit card debt was going to be collected by the Internal Revenue Service...and also I was facing wage garnishment .
Not only is this a scam, but the scammers are dummies. .not even believable .
Do not fall for this. THERE IS A STATUTE OF LIMITATIONS on debt collections . Check your state. The time varies.....my state is Florida. In florida after 5 years have past since your last payment....you can no longer have legal action taken against you. So John Spencer. Go f**k yourself!!!
