Caller name: 651-829-8395
Automated message that went to voicemail -- Claiming to be Verizon Wireless and said there was a status change on my account and to call them at the 877 number. They gave me a reference number as my own cell number. Well guess what... I work for Verizon and there is no such thing as what this scammer/fraudster is doing. There is nothing wrong with your account -- do not call these people back. They are trying to take your information from you. Reported to VZW and FCC.
I received a call from 951 402-2719 and received a voicemail that said there was a change to my Verizon account and to call 877 403-0835 and enter a code. This looks like a scam and they should be sued for using Verizon's name!
Got the same automated VM message telling me it was from Verizon and that I needed to call 877-403-0835 immediately to discuss changes to my account - and the reference number they gave was my own cell phone number. After reading the comments here I did not call back.
Caller name: Verizon
I received a call from this number today but let it go to voice mail instead. According to Verizon website, this number is not associated with them. I am not going to return the call based on this information.
Caller name: Claimed to be verizon
Contacted Verizon using *611, they looked up the 800 number and verified that it's a number associated with bloomington college wherever that is. It is a scam A. to get you to pay them by placing the call. B. Cellphone Number clone. C. To created a database of phone numbers. D. Used in conjunction with a logic bomb to disrupt Verizon's users. E. College phone hacker. F. To integrate with the already capability to tap verizon phones which should not be an issue because most operate with a google product and google has made it clear that their products are not to be used for ease dropping.
Automated message that went to voicemail -- Claiming to be Verizon Wireless and said there was a status change on my account and to call them at the this 877 number. They gave me a reference number which is my cell number. Based on comments I did not return call. Thank you!
Automated call from a different number left a message to call this 877 number regarding a status change on my wifes account and to enter her number when prompted --- She brought it to my attention - I aptly dialed *611 instead -- The Verizon rep said there were no issues with the account, no status changes or updates and she even checked the 877 number herself. She said it appears to be a "message delivery system" but Verizon does not use third-parties for relaying messages and that it was most likely a scam of some sort. She noted the account that we were called by this potential scam number and advised us against calling it.
Just got a call from them (336-308-2411). They even knew the name on the account. I always Google unknown numbers and saw that this is a scam. I also called Big Red to see if anything had changed on the account ( I do have three teenage sons). But nothing has changed since last August.
Caller name: Uknown
I also just received the call. Weird thing is the number on my caller ID was a local number and they asked me to call 877-403-0835 and enter my phone number as a reference number. I will not be calling the number back.

Caller name: 706-434-8808
I received a call from 706-434-8808 regarding changes to my Verizon plan. I have not made any changes so was suspicious. The voice mail asked me to call 877-403-0835. I researched before I did, appears to be a scam.
Same story as above. Repeated calls for a couple of weeks from same area code, different numbers each time. Finally left a voicemail (I don't answer unfamiliar calls). Said it was Verizon and that the status of my account had changed, told me(by name) to call this 877 number and enter my reference number (my phone #). Sounded fishy.
A local # left a voicemail on my sisters phone asking for me in my full name to call Verizon 8774030835. Since I'm the primary it seems a bit strange they wouldn't call me directly and a bit strangererer that this bogus place had asked for me by my full name. This must be the phone of Beelzebub himself infiltrating the souls of our android and iPhones. His treachery knows no bounds!
Caller name: Identified as Verizon
Got the same automated message telling me it was from Verizon and to call the 877 number. Looked up the local number and called it from a different phone, but it was just too strange. Never talked to anyone, and found this here.
Caller name: Said it was Verizon Wireless
The message said that i had a status change on my wireless plan and that I needed to call them right away and use my phone number as my reference number. This immediately sounds like a scammer. Verizon usually either calls me directly, texts me or e-mails me and I haven't changed anything about my plan in over a month.
I to received a call from a local number telling me to call 877-403-0835 about a status change on my account and to pay the past due amount and that arrangements cannot be made and so on. I did make an arrangement to pay the full balance. however, a while back I received a call from a foreign number and stupidly made a payment over the phone. The payment was posted, then someone tried to used my financial information to make a purchase in San Leandre, Calif., I am in GA. for $400.00. My bank caught it. Thank goodness.
Caller name: Phisher
I too recieved the same VM. and it was from a local number (253) 292-6990. I have been recieving strange calls from mulitple numbers with Nevada area codes for months with no answer on the other end. I have called a couple back and it's been a fax or no answer. I am guessing it's the same thing. Maybe if it wasn't the Movie Phone guy's voice it might be a bit more beleivable. Glad I found this.

Same story as so many here. Call was from a local number, 920 area code. Voicemail left was an automated message with my correct name saying to call Verizon back at the 877 number and enter a reference code which is my own cell number. After reading this I won't be calling them. I'll go in to the store if I need anything.
Thanks to everyone who posted! I've been getting strange texts and calls from "Verizon" these past few weeks, and I thought I'd just call one of the numbers back to figure things out. Glad I searched online first.
I had the same experience as many others with this number: automated voicemail telling me to call back and use my own phone number as a reference number.
Caller name: Anonymous
This is legit, see the response from a Verizon representative.
This is just their automated billing system. It will call you if you are a few days past due. They leave the message about a status change because as a collection agency they are prohibited by law from leaving a message about financial information. Customer service will have no record of this call because their system only tracks calls from customer service, not the automated system.
They left a voice message on my cell phone telling me to call 877-403-0835 and reference my cell #. they also sent 2 txt mssgs to my phone with an 800# asking me to provide payment information, ck acct # etc....obviously a scam. I called Verizon at their 611# and they said it was a scam....and never to give out any info. They said never to call any # other than 611!!
Caller name: RWK
Same as everyone else. received call today from 877 number ... I let it go to voicemail... call back asking me to enter my info in which I hung up and research the number... called 611 and Verizon said they're not associated with the number and my account is fine.
Caller name: scam
Over the past 3 weeks I've gotten calls from 87 different numbers. That's not a typo, 87 numbers. I called Verizon directly and gave them the info from the voicemail and they verified that no changes had been made to my account. I turned over every single number as well. I got another call today and decided to call them back from my Sprint phone, just to see what they said. After being told that changes had been made to my account I told him what Verizon had said, and that I had given them all of the information about the numbers. He hung up.
I just received an automated call claiming to be Verizon regarding an account change. The message asked me to call back at 877-403-0835 and enter my reference #, which is my cell #. Sounds like a scam to me. I definitely will not call back. What's weird is the number came up as 551-226-5391 but asked me to call back the # above. If you get this call DON'T ANSWER.
Caller name: claimed to be Verizon Wireless
Automated message from 706-993-3377 that went to voicemail -- Claiming to be Verizon Wireless and said there was a status change on my account and to call them at this 877-403-0835 number. They gave me a reference number which is my cell number.
Based on finding this site, I didn't return the call.
Caller name: 719-948-8555 Pueblo
A recorded voice mail received from a Pueblo, CO number 719-948-8555 instructed me to call 877-403-0835 and to enter my Verizon number as a verification number, the caller claimed to be Verizon. I did not call back, I will block the number from Pueblo.
Caller name: non given
Automated call to my cell phone 3x today. I don't answer calls that I don't recognize. The recording had my correct name and that the caller(s) had to speak to me IMMEDIATELY (yah right).
I was to enter a "special reference number" so I wrote it down...then I realized it was MY cell number.
My quess it they are phishing for valid cell numbers, or entering my cell number would give them access to something or enable them to bill me for something.
SO...DON'T CALL THEM BACK !!!
