Caller name: LINDA

I received several calls/voice mails from 800-955-6600 on my cell phone while in the ER waiting for a family member to have emergency open-heart surgery. The caller identified herself as LINDA with Capital One, stated that it was imperative that she speak to me TODAY regarding important account issues and provided the call back number of 8666-953-7906. I called back - upset that there might be suspicious activity or something on the card. They identified themselves as being with Capital One and "this call may be recorded". The guy picking up asked for my account number - I said I did not have the card with me and what was this all about. He required my name, social security #, and DOB to verify the account info since I didn't have the card. He said the account was in good standing (no s**t Sherlock, so why are you calling me?) and said that these calls go out to delinquent accounts and that he would note the account not to call my number anymore. I thought about it for a few minutes and decided to call the actual Capital One customer service number to verify I did not just give my info to scammers. They verified that the number WAS accurate (the rep called both the number on the caller ID and the one provided in the message) but said that they would NEVER ask for the full social or that kind of information. She also said there was no record of outbound calls. The rep then placed a fraud alert on my account and cancelled the card to re-issue a new one. She also opted me out of outbound calls but said it would take 30 days for that to become effective. I honestly do no know if this is a valid number or not - but my advice is that if you receive calls from either of those numbers, contact Capital One directly with the numbers they have provided on their website to speak with customer service.

the numbers are
866-953-7906 & 800-955-6600
Maybe someone should begin calling them at THEIR REAL number???

Very definitely a scam. I do have a CapitalOne account, but (1) there's nothing wrong with the account, and (2) the phone number I'm getting the calls on is not the number that CapitalOne has on file, but a Magic Jack number that I've never given to anyone, and don't even use.

I've been getting these calls daily for a couple of months now. I have little doubt that CapitalOne would not piss off a model customer like that. Ignore these calls.

Robocall left on my machine: "Hi this is Linda. We would like to discuss solutions regarding an important business matter with CapitalOne. Please call us back today at 1-866-953-7906 to discuss it further. Again the number is 1-866-953-7906. Thank you." Contacted capitalone and they said if 866-953-7906 isn't on their website contact pages, then it's not a capitalone number. Couldn't find 866-953-7906 on capitalone.com so this is a scam call. I think this scam works on you believing you've been called by the real capitalone (and you have not), you call 866-953-7906 back (and you should not), they ask you for an account number to look up what the important business matter is all about, then they ask you for personal info to verify that you are the legit owner of the account number you just gave them. Don't fall for it or the scammers will steal your money and possibly your ID, and unless you're a very important client, capitalone will likely not replace your stolen money. Why not? Because you, not capitalone, were negligent in volunteering your data to a scammer. Ain't capitalone's fault.

I have capital one accounts, but whenever they've called me in the past its a personal call and not a machine. This is obviously a scam call and it's very aggravating.

"Linda" called and left a message to call this number. When I called, they asked my name, I gave it to him. Then he asked for my credit card number, I said no, that you called me. Then he asked for my account number, I again said no, then he asked for my social security number, again I said no, that you called me. He asked my name again, and I said that I told him at the beginning of the phone call and told him my name again. He asked for my phone number, (which caller ID would tell him) so I gave him my phone number, and he asked for my zip code which I also gave him (he could tell the area my phone number came from anyway). Then he said that my name wasn't the reason they called. I said maybe it was for one of my children, was this an advertisement? He just repeated that it wasn't for my name. Then I said goodbye and hung up. I then looked up the number on the internet and found similar requests were made of other people...I think this is a scam.

I've been getting calls from Linda for 2 days and could not for the life of me figure out what they were calling about. I checked this website and found that people are reporting it as a fraudulent call from Capital One. I checked my Capital One accounts (I have 2), and low and behold I had missed a payment in May (Oops)! I never miss a payment! So, I made my payment on line as I always do. Bottom line, I never called "Linda" back so I have no idea if this is a scam, but I was in fact behind a month on my Capital One account.

Caller name: Linda, called from 1-800-955-6600, but wanted me to call 1-866-953-7906

Received a call from phone number 1-800-955-6600. First time they called they left a message. It was someone named Linda saying she needed to discuss a business matter with me about my Capital One account. She told me to call 1-866-953-7906. Instead of calling the number she told me to, I called the customer service number on my card. I found out that the 1-800-955-6600 number did belong to their special account services department, but they did not recognize the 1-866-953-7906 number. They said that sometimes agents will reach out to customers if they have a question or if you miss a payment to see what's going on, but there were no notes on my account that someone tried to reach out to me today and this person called me twice.

If you get a suspicious phone call like that, just call the number that you know belongs to the company and ask them about it. I never call back numbers from people asking me to call another number than the one they called from. It's very easy for scammers to clone another company's number to make you think they're actually calling from a business you know, but if they ask you to call back a number that doesn't resemble the number they called from at all, it's more than likely a scammer.

DO NOT GIVE THESE PEOPLE ANY INFORMATION!! THIS IS A SCAM!!! Just got off the phone with Capital One and they assured me this number is not connected to them at all. Although it sounds pretty real with the " Thank you for calling Capital One" and "This call may be recorded," this is a scam to get your information. If you ever call a credit card company they should never ask you your full social security number or your full card number. They should already have it. The people at the 866-953-7906 number get pretty irritated when you tell them that too. If you have any questions about your account call the number listed on the Capital One website.

This caller Linda , calling about an important matter from a Capital One credit Card , left a message to return the call to 866 953-7906 ,6/17/14 , 8:30am . Seemed very nice but never left a name for the call she was inquiring about or any other Identification authenticating Capital One... She Had All the telling of a Felon named Jeffrey Hirschkorn ( Orlando Florida , Seminole county ) Jailed in 2011 ( and this can be researched by entering his name on ripoffreport.com or Seminole county court / Jail ) He was A credit card , worthless check ,fraud and scammer that tried every trick and lie to obtain sensitive info from anyone .
Be Careful ! Believe it These types can do wonders with just a little of your info. and He will do it again when he gets out as most do. Linda seemed very personable and nice , and even suggested I call the back of the card to verify any issues if I felt uncomfortable , But This is also just a ploy to convince me this is a real capital One call !!! Been there done that ! I called Capital one there were no issues with any of the accounts no remarks under any accounts .Also seems that already there are many who have responded here , ( How many give up there info to her .

I advised Capital One that they call from an 800-955-6600 number and they said that is one of their numbers however the call back number is not one of theirs they recognize. They managed to stop outbound calls to my cell phone so hopefully these calls will stop. If they continue I will be calling them and telling them that I am on a DNC list and they will be reported to the police. This is beginning to become beyond ridiculous. Got calls from the 800-953-7906 Linda, Capitol One. "Important Business Matter" ....... did not ask for a specific person in our household. We called Capitol One (used the number on our bill) and they verified this 7906 is NOT their number. They verified our account and everything is fine and there is no record they tried to reach us, no reason to. When it came up (incoming) on our called ID it is Capital vs Capitol One, easy to mistake the name with the close spelling. BEWARE and watch your account closely.
