Caller name: LINDA

Caller type: Unknown

I received several calls/voice mails from 800-955-6600 on my cell phone while in the ER waiting for a family member to have emergency open-heart surgery. The caller identified herself as LINDA with Capital One, stated that it was imperative that she speak to me TODAY regarding important account issues and provided the call back number of 8666-953-7906. I called back - upset that there might be suspicious activity or something on the card. They identified themselves as being with Capital One and "this call may be recorded". The guy picking up asked for my account number - I said I did not have the card with me and what was this all about. He required my name, social security #, and DOB to verify the account info since I didn't have the card. He said the account was in good standing (no s**t Sherlock, so why are you calling me?) and said that these calls go out to delinquent accounts and that he would note the account not to call my number anymore. I thought about it for a few minutes and decided to call the actual Capital One customer service number to verify I did not just give my info to scammers. They verified that the number WAS accurate (the rep called both the number on the caller ID and the one provided in the message) but said that they would NEVER ask for the full social or that kind of information. She also said there was no record of outbound calls. The rep then placed a fraud alert on my account and cancelled the card to re-issue a new one. She also opted me out of outbound calls but said it would take 30 days for that to become effective. I honestly do no know if this is a valid number or not - but my advice is that if you receive calls from either of those numbers, contact Capital One directly with the numbers they have provided on their website to speak with customer service.

I have no accts with Capitol One, so I went to my call rejection and they had a different number for these folks scamming at this number.
the numbers are
866-953-7906 & 800-955-6600
Maybe someone should begin calling them at THEIR REAL number???

"Linda" called and left a message to call this number. When I called, they asked my name, I gave it to him. Then he asked for my credit card number, I said no, that you called me. Then he asked for my account number, I again said no, then he asked for my social security number, again I said no, that you called me. He asked my name again, and I said that I told him at the beginning of the phone call and told him my name again. He asked for my phone number, (which caller ID would tell him) so I gave him my phone number, and he asked for my zip code which I also gave him (he could tell the area my phone number came from anyway). Then he said that my name wasn't the reason they called. I said maybe it was for one of my children, was this an advertisement? He just repeated that it wasn't for my name. Then I said goodbye and hung up. I then looked up the number on the internet and found similar requests were made of other people...I think this is a scam.

I do agree with everyone. It's a scam. Yes, only contact Capital One phone number on the back on your card. Also, it you've missed a payment they will send you a statement by mail or email. They give you a choice when you log in online if you want your statement by email or mail.

Received two calls from LINDA calling about a Capital One Card on my business phone. I don't have a Capital One Card, or card owned/operated by Capital One. She does not ask to speak with any one she simply says "Hi this is Linda calling about your Capital One Card" She goes on to leave a telephone number to call 1-866-953-7906. They should at least target folks who have credit cards or even folks who have Capital One cards.

I have received several calls a day for the past few days. Since it sounded like a recording that was done in an empty trash can I thought it was a scam. Linda leaves the exact same message every time. This is a scam. I finally was able to answer just before I wrote this and told them that they had the wrong number and to take me off their list. We will see.

Robocall left on my machine: "Hi this is Linda. We would like to discuss solutions regarding an important business matter with CapitalOne. Please call us back today at 1-866-953-7906 to discuss it further. Again the number is 1-866-953-7906. Thank you." Contacted capitalone and they said if 866-953-7906 isn't on their website contact pages, then it's not a capitalone number. Couldn't find 866-953-7906 on capitalone.com so this is a scam call. I think this scam works on you believing you've been called by the real capitalone (and you have not), you call 866-953-7906 back (and you should not), they ask you for an account number to look up what the important business matter is all about, then they ask you for personal info to verify that you are the legit owner of the account number you just gave them. Don't fall for it or the scammers will steal your money and possibly your ID, and unless you're a very important client, capitalone will likely not replace your stolen money. Why not? Because you, not capitalone, were negligent in volunteering your data to a scammer. Ain't capitalone's fault.

I ust called Capital One and they are not even seeing this number in their system. They call me 4-5 times a day and its always while i'm at work. They only call my cell phone. I advised Capital One that they call from an 800-955-6600 number and they said that is one of their numbers however the call back number is not one of theirs they recognize. They managed to stop outbound calls to my cell phone so hopefully these calls will stop. If they continue I will be calling them and telling them that I am on a DNC list and they will be reported to the police. This is beginning to become beyond ridiculous. They should not be calling my cell phone numerous times a day for one thing and being shady as f**k about it as well.

I called the original number which was 18009556600 and just got a the automated system, I also called the 18669537906 it originally said the automated Capital One voice, but then immediately transferred to "someone that could help me". A Kathy then picked up and asked for my 16 digit card number. to play along I said which one. She fumbled for a bit then hemmed and hawwed and said, well i need something, can you give me your social security number I said the whole thing or the last 4 digits? She said the full number, I then laughed in her ear and said told her Capital One would NEVER ask for my full social security number or card number, they only ask for last 4 of either one. I asked her what the "nature" of the call was for, was it to tell me I missed a payment or was it to ask about fraud activity? She brightened up and said YES, its to report a missed payment, I said, I have my account pulled up and all are current would you like to try again? She then said well I believe it would be fraud activity then, I said I haven't used my card in a year, are you just now following up on a 6.82 purchase from a year ago? With that she hung up. lol

Just received a call on my office line. Same thing that everyone else is saying(from Linda) I never gave Capital One that number. My primary number is my cell and they didn't call that number. I called the number back and a representative asked for the last four of my social. I gave that because that's pretty easy to locate. She then asked for my date of birth, so I refused and told her she should already have that on file as well. She then told me that I could call the number on the back of my card. I said ok and hung up.

Got calls from the 800-953-7906 Linda, Capitol One. "Important Business Matter" ....... did not ask for a specific person in our household. We called Capitol One (used the number on our bill) and they verified this 7906 is NOT their number. They verified our account and everything is fine and there is no record they tried to reach us, no reason to. When it came up (incoming) on our called ID it is Capital vs Capitol One, easy to mistake the name with the close spelling. BEWARE and watch your account closely. We closed the credit card just to be on the safe side.

Got a message from "Linda" asking me to call back about an "important business matter". After reading all of the responses on here, I just decided to take the defensive approach. I called back. The lady asked me for my account number. I said no. She asked me for my social. I said no. She said, "Do you not have an account with Capital One?" I said, "It doesn't matter because you're not Capital One, and I'd like you to take me off of the list." She said, "OK. May I have your phone number?" lol At the end, I said, "So are you admitting that you're NOT Capital One?" She said they are Capital One, but they have several different phone numbers.

This number calls my place of business multiple times per week and leaves voicemails on the weekends when we are not open. It is always the same recording so I called the number back and the person asked for my name, 16 digit card number as well as my social security number. I informed her that under no circumstances should anyone ask that information over the phone. I also explained that the actual creditor- Capital One, would already have that information and if they did not then they most certainly would not ask for me to state it over the telephone. She said that the reason for the call actually requires that information. SCAM!
I asked to be removed from their call list.

I've been getting calls from Linda for 2 days and could not for the life of me figure out what they were calling about. I checked this website and found that people are reporting it as a fraudulent call from Capital One. I checked my Capital One accounts (I have 2), and low and behold I had missed a payment in May (Oops)! I never miss a payment! So, I made my payment on line as I always do. Bottom line, I never called "Linda" back so I have no idea if this is a scam, but I was in fact behind a month on my Capital One account.
