User Complaints for 866-288-2780
Caller name: Lisa Martin
Phone call came in from a "Lisa Martin" claiming she worked for Bill Russell. We had won a new Ford Explorer by entering either an online entry or one from the mall. She claimed it was not a fraud or an attempt for a sales solicitation. Seeing all these complaints here, makes me think this is a scam.
Caller name: Diane Foster
Got the exact call that Roger J got, from Diane Foster, only it was on my answering machine. I don't remember trying to win a Dodge Durango online and am glad that I googled the number before calling the 866 number.

Caller name: Melvin Holmes
A Melvin Holmes left a message on my voicemail. Same thing, we won a 2013 Dodge Durango and 4 other prizes. Said we had not responded to postal documents. He Made a point to say this is real, your ticket has been picked, congratulations!! I do enter a lot of contests, sure wish it was real! When I saw everyone else with similar stories and a Mr. Russell involved just proved scam!!
Caller name: Simoma Call, Mr. Russell's assistant
So happy I goggled the # (866-288-2780)! Got the same call as noted above from 781-341-7720 (which I goggled first - Verizon landline # with no name that I could get for free). Didn't recognize the #, so let the answering machine get it. Caller said she was Mr. Russell's assistant and that I had won a 2013 Dodge Durango or one of 3 other prizes from an entry I had filled out at a local shopping mall or online (neither of which I ever do) and that something had been mailed to me (again, not true - I checked my unopened mail for the last month or so). Specifically stated it was NOT a sales call or solicitation (based on above, also not true). Happy I checked before I called back. Scary thing was, she did say my full name and address and our phone listing does not list my name - only my husband's. Wish I could figure out where the info. was generated from!! Thanks for posting, everyone!! :)
Caller name: Diane
I received a call from M Wayland at 508-276-3324 and spoke with Diane who told me that I won a new Dodge Durango and/or some other stuff. I was told to call Mr. Russell right away and he would meet me tomorrow in Bartonsville, PA with my prize. She told me to call Mr. Russell at 1-866-288-2780. This is a SCAM.
Caller name: Kennedy Foster
Just received a call from Kennedy Foster that I had won a 2013 Ford Explorer or other prizes and to call Mr. Russell at 866-288-2780. Obvious scam - dont call them and dont give them any more personal information
Just received the call. Same as above. January 12th, 2014 on Sunday night at 9pm.
Was told to call Russel. Also knew my name and address...... came to this site and I am glad I did. In this time and age, people are having a hard time and they prey on that prize thingy, one could get sucked in easily I think. Scarey that anyone can get info
on us so easily like this.... very disconcerting.
Caller name: Bill Russell
He said we won a 2013 Dodge Durango and 3 other prizes. Said they sent a document to us but hadn't heard from us...whatever. Christina claimed to be Mr. Russell's assistant and to call 866-288-2780 as soon as possible
Caller name: Diane
Same thing just happened to me...caller knew my name and address and claimed I had entered a contest on-line or at the mall for a Durango. I asked who was sponsoring the contest? She said Mr. Russell had the details and I would have to call him to learn more. Even more interesting she asked if I was familiar with a nearby town because the Durango has to be picked up tomorrow. Our home is on the do not call list and it has not spared us from telemarketers.
Caller name: Christina Lee
Caller ID showed "Salt Lake City 679-xxxx" and, as we knew no one with that cell #, we let it go to voice mail.
Message was from Christina Lee, Mr. Lowell Russell's Assistant, informing a DECEASED member of our family that they "had submitted entry forms by mail or online and their entry had been chosen and they had won a 2013 Ford Explorer vehicle OR one of two other prizes. We have sent you paperwork by mail but you have not yet returned it. So we are making one final attempt to reach you so we can award your prize. Please call us back at 1-866-288-2780. THIS IS NOT A SALES OR SOLICITATION CALL; our ONLY purpose for this call is to Award you your 2013 Ford Explorer. Congratulations!"
Well, WHY would they be calling in Utah on a Sunday??? Dead give-away it WASN'T legit.
And, WHY would the call have come in by an unknown local cell # if the whoop-de-doo contest was back East and managed elsewhere?
Also, no one in family enters such contests, but we were curious (and hadn't read anything here yet, so we called the # left and were asked to leave our (deceased family member's) name, spelling and a # that would be called back in under 15 minutes.
In 15 min., a Valerie, who also claimed to be Mr. Lowell Russell's assistant at the Prize Award Center phoned. She spoke insanely fast, muttered and was rude. If we couldn't produce our (deceased) family member she would "release the prize to another claimant". Before disclosing anything, we tried to get a Company name from her but got nothing more than "Prize Award Center" before she abruptly hung up on us, mid-sentence.
So, we put on our best Executor hat and phoned back, went through the same rigmarole and left a second message stating we were the EXECUTORS of our deceased family member whom they were notifying was a prize winner. We spouted some legal stuff and voiced a complaint against rude, abrupt Valerie and demanded the Courtesy of a return call.
None has been received and it is now nearly 35 minutes since the first one came.
Obviously, NOT valid nor legit.
I am very happy with this surprise.
Hey is a Dodge Durango better than a Ford Explorer?????? That's what they said I won......Dam! I need to call that #......Diane Forster sounded like a happy party girl.....long time since I went to a party......I can still handle a party....I'll be 72 on the 8th of February....
Where are your Diane?
Caller name: MONICA SCOTT
Same exact message:
"This message is for <name> at <address>. Hi my name is Monica Scott, I'm Mr. Russel's assistant. This contest is now officially over and your ticket entry has been selected as a winner. Congratulations. We have sent you some documents out in the mail to your home address but we did not receive a response back. This will be our final attempt. This is not a sales nor solicitation call. Needless to say, I didn't call back.
Caller name: Melvin Holmes
11/15/13 received a voice mail from Melvin Holmes saying they had previously sent paperwork to my home that I had failed to send back. Actually said my correct address on the message. It made me very curious so I called and left my name and number. What the h**l right? They already had it anyway. I knew it was a scam but I wanted to see who called back. Left a message for a Mr. Russell. Haven't heard from anyone yet. Oh well, wasn't going to do anything but cuss them out and try to scare them. LOL
Caller name: Unknown caller
Got a call tonight from Michelle Williams (funny how all their names are so generic) who told me that I had registered to win a Ford Explorer or one of three other prizes. She also mentioned that I had done so either at a local shopping center or on-line. This person said that my entry had been selected, that they had already sent me documentation that I had failed to complete and return, so it was imperative that I return their call.
This message was left on my voice mail. The caller had my name and address and told me that I was definitely a winner and congratulated me. Yippee!!!
Caller name: Lisa Marne?
I got the same message that others have gotten saying that I had won a 2014 Ford Explorer or one of two other prizes. After I called back, another assistant did return my call and said that the other prizes were $25,000 in cash, a trip to Florida or Las Vegas, and some kind of fancy TV. She said that more information will come in the mail. She did ask whether I was between the ages of 18 an 72 and whether I was married, but nothing that wouldn't be available to the public. Although I am a bit skeptical, I have received good legitimate prizes in the past from a grocery store I shop at and a website I visit so I don't know for a fact that anything is wrong here. Will have to look at what they send in the mail carefully. Has anyone actually been defrauded?
Caller name: Diane Foster
I appreciate everyone else's comments. I just got the same message on my work line, with my husband's name and our correct address even though we are unlisted which creeped me out a bit. She said her name was Diane Foster and we'd won a 2014 Ford Explorer.
Maybe they're having better luck with Explorers than with Durangos. :)
Anyway, she assured me it wasn't a sales call, we'd definitely won, they'd mailed materials but hadn't heard back from us and this was our last opportunity to claim the prize. I called the 866-288-2780 number and got the message to leave a direct number where they can reach me, and they'll call back in 15 minutes. I didn't leave a message and googled "Bill Russell prize" and found this.
Thank you to everyone for protecting me from this scam.
