Same story. Got a call to call the 866-288-2780 number. They called me back and told me I was a definite winner of one of 4 prizes; durango (or $25K), cruise, $2500, or toshiba laptop. No strings, no "timeshare" like presentation commitments. Said I'd receive my prize via a scratch off in the mail in 5-7 days. Didn't happen. Called twice (I'm a glutten for punishment) and get messages that my call will be returned within 15 minutes. Baloney. Now I see these posts and feel like a jerk.

Said they had sent info in the mail and I never responded and it was a final notice to claim it by calling 8662882780 for Mr. Russell. They also said it wasn't a scam. Sounded to scammy to me. I do not enter sweepstakes so I know that this is a fake and then after reading the other calls from googling the number.

I received a call this evening from a woman stating that I had won or was in the running for a Dodge Durango. I enter lots of contests and have won several and recognized immediately that this call was a fake.

1. You can hear lots of other people in the background and if you listen closely, they're all saying the same thing.

2. When you win a contest or sweepstakes, they don't tell you to call someone else to claim it.

This woman hung up on me when I started asking questions. SCAM. The caller ID showed 508-276-3324, Unknown Name. I traced it and it's what they call a VoIP number, Voice Over Internet Protocol.

As explained by about.com, "Definition: VoIP is a technology that allows telephone calls to be made over computer networks like the Internet. VoIP converts analog voice signals into digital data packets and supports real-time, two-way transmission of conversations using Internet Protocol (IP).

VoIP calls can be made on the Internet using a VoIP service provider and standard computer audio systems. "

In other words, they're making random calls off a list of phone numbers and names they bought or hacked into some large company because I'm unlisted.

Got a call tonight from Michelle Williams (funny how all their names are so generic) who told me that I had registered to win a Ford Explorer or one of three other prizes. She also mentioned that I had done so either at a local shopping center or on-line. This person said that my entry had been selected, that they had already sent me documentation that I had failed to complete and return, so it was imperative that I return their call.

This message was left on my voice mail. The caller had my name and address and told me that I was definitely a winner and congratulated me. Yippee!!!

Was also called by this scam, and did much investigation. it seems to be that so many people have won ford explorers, that the Ford Motor Co must supply them with 100 's of cars. this was way to easy to be a scam, and checked online and was comforted by the fact that this has been going on for some time, and they are now working there way east.....Please be careful..........

Caller name: Simone McCall (Mr. Russell's Assistant)

Caller type: Scammer/Fraudster

Received a call from (914) 653-5000, which Caller ID shows as "Hometown Media." I did not answer but received a message on our machine from a Simone McCall, "Mr. Russell's Assistant," stating that I had won a contest for a 2014 Ford Explorer or one of three other prizes. She said that this was not a solicitation and that I had "in fact" won. She also said that they had mailed information to my home address, but had not heard back, and that this was their last attempt.

~> She used my *maiden* name (RED FLAG) and stated my street address.

She said to call back at "toll free" (866) 288-2780 as soon as possible to claim my prize. For giggles, I tried back two days later, today. A voicemail answered stating that I had reached "Bill Russell, Prize Manager" (no company name - RED FLAG), who was out of the office but would make it in to the office on Tuesday, May 13th at 11:30am. The message said that if you were calling in reference to claiming a prize, you should leave your phone number and the correct spelling of your name. I'm considering calling back to tomorrow to see if they just keep changing the voicemail message.

I have not entered any contests in recent history. Top that with the fact that I've been married for a long time and do not use my Maiden name. So, either I have a Fairy God Mothers flitting around entering me in contests in hopes of brightening my future with some prize money, or this is some sort of shady business. I just haven't yet figured out exactly what they are getting out of it, other than confirming your information for future solicitations??

My story, much the same as all the above stories only some of the names were changed. I actually talked with 2 people, Simone and Christian. Never Bill. I too should have known better but I think we all "dream" occasionally right? The first clue is that they never tell you the company they work for and they can't tell you how you won. I really don't know how they get away with this and for such a long time. I can't believe I continued calling. Glad i finally checked on line and it's amazing to me how many people they called and for how long they've gotten away with it. I'm through with it other than sending thoughts of bad karma their way any time I think of the names Bill Russell, Christian and Simone.

I got the same message that others have gotten saying that I had won a 2014 Ford Explorer or one of two other prizes. After I called back, another assistant did return my call and said that the other prizes were $25,000 in cash, a trip to Florida or Las Vegas, and some kind of fancy TV. She said that more information will come in the mail. She did ask whether I was between the ages of 18 an 72 and whether I was married, but nothing that wouldn't be available to the public. Although I am a bit skeptical, I have received good legitimate prizes in the past from a grocery store I shop at and a website I visit so I don't know for a fact that anything is wrong here. Will have to look at what they send in the mail carefully. Has anyone actually been defrauded?

Soooo glad I'm able to google calls like this. Warnings about this particular scam are all over the internet! Ms "Kennedy Foster, Mr. Russell's assistant," named my husband and our address, and said he had entered online or at a shopping mall. She said the same thing everyone says, that they sent a "document" and he didn't responded, so this was his last chance. She also said this was "not a sales or solicitation," but that he definitely had won. Riiiggghhht.

First of all, my husband NEVER enters contests. Second, I would know if we had received a REAL document -- I know the difference between real and fake. Third, it's interesting that the caller ID said "Bombard, BS" while Ms Foster left a different number for a "Mr. Russell."

They must get some poor suckers who respond, otherwise they wouldn't be continuing the same scam for years on end.

Maybe they're having better luck with Explorers than with Durangos. :)

Anyway, she assured me it wasn't a sales call, we'd definitely won, they'd mailed materials but hadn't heard back from us and this was our last opportunity to claim the prize. I called the 866-288-2780 number and got the message to leave a direct number where they can reach me, and they'll call back in 15 minutes. I didn't leave a message and googled "Bill Russell prize" and found this.
