I recieved a call from a woman who said she was from the social security administration processing center and needed to verify information that had been submitted. She asked if I had time to go over the information. She asked my full name, where I was born, and mothers maiden name. I then asked her to give me some identifying info to assure me she was in deed who she claimed to be. She said that I would be receiving a letter and hung up. Also this is a Saturday and since when does the government work weekends!??

"Andrea" from the Social Security Administration called on a SUNDAY (When does any Government agency work on a Sunday that isn't Law Enforcement?) to state that they needed to verify information about a claim that was submitted on my behalf.

Now here is the concerning thing. The claim was submitted by mail, by a law firm, so the chances they were hacked are low...so I would bet that the SS Administration has been hacked. These scammers are doing Social Engineering in order to find out more information about people. If you have gotten calls from these people about Social Security then the likelihood exists that the Social Security computers have already been compromised at some level -- maybe not your entire SSN, but enough info for them to contact you and try to get info out of people to figure things out (and get the gullible to give their entire SSN out).

Don't talk to them, and report this # to the SSN Administration! You can contact the SS Administration OIG at 1-800-269-0271, M-F/10 am to 4 pm (https://oig.ssa.gov/report)

Peace!

I missed the call so I called back and it was a recording (female voice) and it stated:

"You have reached the Social Security Office in Kansas City, MO. Someone has attempted to contact you. This call requires no further action by you. The caller will attempt to contact you later. Thank you."

They knew details of my client's claim which only someone who has access to her case file would know, but I can find nothing about any "Claims Processing Center" in KCMO using Google, the fax number is not indexed by Google, the phone number she gave as her call-back was not toll-free.

I called the SSA's 800 number and the lady who answered said there was no processing center in either KS or MO.

Caller name: Tanner Sullivan (per voicemail message at his ext. 4438)

Caller type: Unknown

His voicemail message represented himself as being the Social Security Administration and if I would please leave a message with my name, SS number and phone number. After hanging up, I searched the phone number and it does not appear to be a valid social security phone number. I believe this is a scam to steal identities.

This indeed was the Social Security although my caller ID said it was Japan! I did not answer, but subsequently I did call the phone message number and extension back from a land line just to be sure, and was GLAD I did! Indeed, it was truly Angela at Social security processing who helped me to complete the processing of my social security retirement AND she is a great person to talk to. She helped me tremendously.

This is a legit phone number. I work for SSA in the Kansas City region. We're not a local office. We're a PC - Processing Center. We do work weekends from time to time. No reason to worry but if you do, you can just hang up and call the 800 number. That's what we have most people do.

What blows my mind is I first got a call from my Attorney's office paralegal Elaine saying that they had gotten a call from the Social Security Office asking permission to call me because they needed more information about doctor appointments and times I had been, etc.

They had asked her for permission to call me so she was calling me to tell me this. When I hung up I could see the red flags dancing around my living room.

Within 2 minutes my phone was ringing and the number I posted above showed in my caller ID on my cell. I did not answer it. They left a message which was very unprofessional and there was static in the background.

I already know that my local SSA office is handling my paperwork and I have their direct numbers both local and toll free. I also have both Representatives names that I have talked to in the past. I also know they have already received all of my records because they were scanned and mailed back to me a month ago.

Please do not answer this number/call. It is SPAM!!!!!!

The caller claimed to be from SSA Kansas City, MO office and is trying to verify info and report . But the official SSA Kansas City, MO has listed phone number as 1-800-772-1213 and I called using this number. The lady claimed the office does not have 816-936-3000 number.

B. Told him to go fry ice because he needed to identify himself BEFORE identifying me and SSA should have that information anyway.

Got a call on my cell phone - a number I don't give out all that often. Caller identified himself as calling from the SS office. I'm not sure this is a scam because I had also filed online for SS benefits recently. Most call-backs to government offices provide 800 numbers for call backs. Just because they called from a different number doesn't mean they are scam artists. Once I reconnect, will post again. His message included telling me that I had no made an error on my application, there were just some filing options they were required to go over with me. Didn't sound sinister or scammy.

Caller claimed he was SS from office in Kansas City, MO. He called three times before I answered, I had researched the number and saw it was a scam! He said he noticed I had called their toll free number, which I hadn't. I told him I knew this was a scam and I hoped they got caught soon and hung up! I was the payee for my brothers SSA, however, he passed away over a year ago! How are they getting this inform???

I did not answer this because I do not answer from numbers i do not know, but looking at the other complaints it seems to be a SS scam. I filed for SS a week or so ago so that may well be it.
