Caller name: Amanda
This phone number keeps calling me several times during the week and today twice. She identifies herself as Amanda from the Breast Cancer Awareness association. I told them not to call but they call back
Caller name: Breast Cancer Society Bowling Green VA
My answering machine took this call. I could see on my caller ID that the number was 804-632-8616. Actually, no message was left except a female calling me by my first name.I was very disturbed by this, as I don't know why someone calling for money or whatever it was about should have my first name. It is not in the phone book.
This number keeps calling me, sometimes twice a day. I get a dial tone when I phone them back. I loath these people. If I want to buy something I will come to the seller. This is a good arguement in favour of bringing back the death penalty.
Charities are exempt from the do not call list.
The caller ID just said 'Breast Cancer' and the caller did not name a specific charity and talked very quickly/over me -- so already knew it was a scam. I figured they'd give me a hard time if I outright refused or keep calling me, so I asked them to post information to me. They tried to push me into using credit/debit over the phone and kept talking over me, but I insisted on mail only and they finally agreed after a great deal of push-back from me. Pretty sure they won't send anything and will go back to calling.
Please be careful of any charity that refuses to give a specific name and/or tries to corner you into using your CC. You can pretty much tell as soon as you answer the phone if they're messing with you.
Sought donation, and when told unemployed and cannot donate right now, caller persisted. When told to give me a job so I could donate, I was laughed at. Time for a letter to the Breast Cancer Society to inform them of poor practices and to never bother me again. (BTW, we personally support BC programs such as the Virginia Ride for the Cure, and help a good friend who has BC.)
