The person used my full name that is listed on my checking account and that is why I didn't think anything unusual about the phone call at first. She asked for my DOB to verify my account and that is when I got sucpicious, and told her I didn't feel comfortable giving that information out, and asked what it was for. She said she couldn't tell me the reason for the cal leithout verifying my account and that I could call the back of the number on my card if I wanted to know the reason for the call.
When I called capital one they had no explanation as to why anyone from there would be calling me.

Everyone saying this caller is a scammer is a complete idiot. It's Capital One's fraud department. You can find their phone number on Capital One's official website.

Got a call today from 800-955-7070 did not answer no message left but caller ID said "Capitol One".
I called capitol one (that same number) after verifying that it was correct on the back of my Credit Card and asked what they wanted. They checked and DID NOT CALL ME, NO RECORD of any call, I was assured all was well with my card and there were no issues. It had to be a scam of some sort.

Caller name: Identified as Capital One

Caller type: Unknown

Received a call from this number on my home phone, which I didn't answer, then on my cell phone. We don't have a Capital One account, but he said he was verifying a new application. I asked where he got my phone numbers. He said it was "public record", not listed on the application. I asked what address was on the application. He said I cannot give you that information, except it said Dallas, TX. I said I don't live in Dallas and the application was not from me and to please destroy. I asked what information was on the application - social security number, middle name, address, etc. He said he couldn't give me that information. He said he couldn't destroy or disregard the application. Really? Why did you call me????

This is a legit Capital One number. I received a call today that one of the the vendors that I used in the past has had their merchant system compromised. i.e. Target, etc. They did not ask for personal information and verified all of my pending transactions.

Well, this is a legitimate number for Capitol One. I have heard that scam artists can spoof legitimate numbers. Always safer to call back to the number on your card.

This caller kept calling until I answered. He said that there was some suspicious activity on my card. With so many scams out there, I told him I would call him back. (Not intending to call him back at all) I instead called my husband, who was out of town, about this scam call. As we discussed the "scammer" I remembered that the "scammer" mentioned the last four digits of my credit card and knew mine & my husband's name. We then immediately looked at our account online and indeed saw a fraudulent charge. ($370.00). We called that 800 number back and got the charge removed and our cards replaced. Kudos to Capital One for catching this for us. If you are not sure if scam or not, call the number on the back of your card.

Caller name: Fraud Protection

Caller type: Unknown

My wife answered the call and took the info and she called me and I called them back and it was Capital One informing me of possible fraud on my credit card. I was glad I called because there was some purchase made on my card that I did not make and they close my account and issued me a new credit card. This number is Capital One
and the direct fraud protection number is (800-25-1921).
If you get a call it might be a good idea to give them a call.

Capital One Fraud Alert, I checked the number on Capital One's website and it was listed. Called back and was asked last 4 digit, which i gave. They asked me about a recent transaction, a debit I had made to increase my credit limit. What threw me off was that they were going to call my bank directly to verify that I am the owner. Hung up after that.

How did I get to this website? While on hold I looked at my caller ID and saw 800-955-7070. Different from what I was originally called from.

They sound so legit, but my gut said no...

Called and said they were from Capital One Fraud dept. and that an application had been made on my account. Left a call back number of 800-239-7054 and a 14 digit case number. I went to my Capital One account online and did online chat to find there was nothing wrong with my account. NEVER give information to someone calling you......verify number you should be calling and call them back. They should never ask you more than last 4 digits of SS number or account number.

Caller name: Eddie from Capital One

Caller type: Unknown

Caller identified himself as Eddie from Capital One Fraud protection and asked if I had applied for a Capital One card. I had just applied for a card within the past ten days! Then he stated that he would be asking me for information that was public record and that it was for the purpose of verifying my identity. First of all, this guy left voice mail on my cell phone two days ago and the same guy called today. That struck me as strange. Then he asked me to verify the state that issued my Social Security number. I told him I didn't remember because it was so long ago, but he persisted and I told him I was having trouble with my cell phone. I hung up, but he called right back and I did not answer. This is obviously NOT Capital One and I will be notifying them and filing a complaint.

Said they were with <name unintelligible> fraud alert department.
The person had an even thicker foreign accent than the (legit) Capital One call center people I have spoken to before. She was obviously reading a script.
I checked my card activity online and there were no suspicious activities.
I am not returning the call

Claimed to be calling from Capital One due to credit card use.
I caught on and refused to give him any info. He knew my name, cell # and dates a recent Spark Card had been issued to me and dates card had been sent to me. Credit card # he quoted to me was not one of my cards. I never received the credit card to use so I don't even know the number on the card.

I don't even have a capital one account. Caller knew my name and phone number (they left a message on my answering machine.) I called Capital One, the number 800-955-7070 (The fraud department number is also being used 800-239-7054) really is their customer service number, and they had told me that the case number that I gave did not refer to me.

this number called my cellphone today and said they were calling from Capital One's fraud department and that there has been some suspicious activity on my credit card. Then they asked me to confirm my credit card number to them in order to access my file. I know for sure THIS IS A SCAM. Last time when my card was cloned I received a call from my bank - but they called my house for security purposes and never had they asked for my CC number, as they had it on file.
