i got a call from the "tech support department" of Microsoft. When I told him I didn't have any problems with my computer, he kept on insisting they received a report from my computer. He told me my pc is running slow and needs to be repaired. I was like, "huh?are you some kind of scammer". he just hang up.

don't bother answering a call from this no. They are a scam and has nothing to do with Microsoft at all. I suppose they are out to infect your computer once you give them access to it. so beware people!

Got this call from a certain Rob Williams, strange name for someone with a heavy Indian accent. Anyway, he wanted me to give him remote access to my PC. Supposedly they detected a virus infection on my PC. As soon as I heard that, I hang up.

Had 2 calls today both claiming to be from BT Open Reach and saying he had noticed suspicious and unusual activity on my connection and he could help me by solving it remotely if I switched on my computer!!

As others have said it sounded like the old Microsoft scam when they lock up your device and will only unlock it for a large fee (after they've accessed everything of course). Of course neither Open Reach or Microsoft make cold calls. 1471 revealed the caller number as 0121 7779988

I received a call with Unknown Number on the caller id. Obviously a robot dialer as they don't respond to 'Hello' for 5 or 6 seconds. Said he was from computer support company, which i knew immediately was a scam. When I told him i was in a meeting and could he give me his number to call him back he said he wasn't authorized. I stated that was because he was running a scam, which he then admitted. When i told him i would report him to the phone company, he said 'oh, i'm really scared'. I hung up.

Caller name: He never gave a name

Caller type: Scammer/Fraudster

This "Rob Williams" never gave me his name but basically I pulled their IP and attempted to DDoS him as best as my computer could handle. Got a call from them 12 hours later but as a 900-142 number instead and they asked me straight out did I DDoS them and I was like Oh... It honestly scared me but I knew they couldn't do the same back as I have a dynamic IP with a VPN so I knew it would be hard along with a packet blocker, which if someone sends a lot of packets too me, my phone gets a notification from my internet company, with an IP that's sending it in case it's a trusted IP and but if it's not a trusted IP, I can just DDoS them right back. I love being tech savvy

Someone with a very heavy Indian (from India) accent called me early in April, 2013. I could hardly understand him. He used my name & said, Your computer has been hacked. I said, no it hasn't, I'm not having any trouble with it at all. He went on & on and I said, I can't understand a word you're saying. I suspected a scam and hung up on him. Scary that he found my name & phone number. Hope scammers can't jam up my computer, since I'm a senior citizen on a fixed income & probably can't get mine fixed or buy another one. I was extremely annoyed by this intrustive call and by the liar calling me. Thank you for this website.

Caller name: Windows Service Center

Caller type: Scammer/Fraudster

They claimed to have gotten a message that I downloaded a virus that was corrupting my computer. It sounded fishy, but my husband had been trying to fix one of the laptops and had been on the phone with someone for hours the night before. They got pretty far along with me. I asked for proof of who they were and he took me to a long ID number and said it was private and no one else would have that number. I later learned that this is the Windows ID and it is found on all computers with Windows. I told him I needed to speak to my husband, who directed me to Costco Concierge Services, who told me it was a scam.
This scammer actually left his name and phone number! 646-300-9343. He said to ask for Nathan Parker. Hope you get these guys. He nearly got into my computer with his smooth talk (barely understandable Indian accent).

I hate these people! They are very intrusive and are a waste of time. They don't even know what they are talking about. When you ask for a supervisor, they just change the subject and just insist that they receive a report. i'm so pissed off!!!

what's scary is that lately there's an indication that they are also infecting your computer and once you get a pop-up notification it's followed up with a phone call....

this is REALLY worrying

The same "Rob Williams" called me the other day, told me he was a tech guy from Microsoft. I got suspicious because I have a Mac. I let him finish his spiel and when he started asking for personal information, I just told him point-blank I don't use Windows. So beware of these scammers.
