Claiming to be the US medical department. They ask you if you or your family have had surgical procedures in the last year & state you're eligible for compensation from the government if you have.
They don't know any laws and when you tell them they are violating privacy acts they say "don't understand. Say slow".
Every call I've received is from a Pakistani sounding person.
DONT ANSWER IT. its a scam. do not answer any number that is far away. they still your password and they can get into your information. I get this this call like 3 to 4 times a week and its gets annoying but the best you can do is not answer it
Caller name: unknown male
Asked for me BY NAME and said they were calling from the US Medical Department in "Howston" Texas. Asked if I had ever had any surgical procedure that I could receive compensation. I explained that I did not feel comfortable talking to a stranger about this. He continued asking questions, I answered "no" several times and said I would not discuss my medical history with a stranger on an unsolicited call. I then hung up. The name on caller ID is "ROSEAU DM"
This number has called several times and they never leave a vm. The next time it called I answered and the person could barely speak english. He asked me if I had a specific operation done...? I told him no. How would someone know about this? He then asked me if I ever took the birth control Yas. I hung up...I tried to call number back and was put on hold but know that no one will ever pick up no matter how long you are on hold.
When I answered this call, a male caller informed me that I was eligible for health insurance coverage due to my medical history. He continued to inform me that it was due to a surgery I had had several years prior to lift my bladder. I tried to interrupt him and told him he needed to stop and listen and he told me that no, I needed to listen. I ran over the top of his words with "medical records are confidential so you would not have access to them even if I had had this surgery. Do not call again". He never quit talking and was still going when I hit the "end call" button.
Caller name: unknown - from Dominca
WARNING: DO NOT CALL BACK UNKNOWN NUMBERS AS A RULE OF THUMB UNTIL YOU CAN VERIFY THAT IT IS NOT A PAY-PER-CALL SCAM.
IF YOU HAVE TO CALL BACK A MISSED NUMBER, DO NOT DO SO, UNTIL YOU VERIFY, AT THE VERY LEAST, THAT THE AREA CODE IS DOMESTIC AND NOT AN INTERNATIONAL LONG-DISTANCE NUMBER. IT MAY BE A PAY-PER-CALL SCAM.
Sometimes international calls look like domestic calls because some numbers in the Caribbean South America have ten digits I got a call from (767) 275-9191 at 9:30 pm on 1/23/2014. It was a missed call, and I called back mistakenly, then came across an article in the paper 2 days later.
The newspaper article warned people about getting a missed call from some random phone number beginning with the 767, the 809 area code, along with a few others all originating ftom various countries in the Caribbean. It is a scam, where a victim will get a call from a strange phone number with an unknown area code, and the caller either hangs up, or you see a missed call on your cell. Then the scammer is hoping the victim will call the number back. What the victim doesn't know is that the phone number is a pay-per-call (google this term) number, and your cell phone company will bill you anywhere from $25/minute to THOUSANDS of dollars for dialing that number.
I think there are currently about 19 different area codes currently registered to the Caribbean.
I took this from a Maryland government website regarding this Caribbean pay-per-call scam. They recommend that:
"Before you return a phone call, be sure you know where the area code is located. To find out, check your phone book, your local telephone company, or, on the Internet, http://www.bellcore.com/NANP/codes.html lists area codes and their locations."
Please be careful. There currently aren't any laws protecting consumers in most states from these kinds of scams, and if it happens to you, call your cell phone company immediately, tell them what happened, and immediately request them to remove the charges. Check your cell phone charges immediately as well.
Your cell phone company, if they are a good company, will drop the charges, but they have absolutely no legal obligation to do so, so please be careful.
I am with Verizon Wireless, and am waiting to see how they will handle my situation.
Caller name: Don't know
Has called several times in the last couple of weeks, but when I pick up, no one answers - I just hear some foreign voices in the background and then get disconnected.
Today when they called I actually spoke with someone. I could barely understand him (I had to keep asking him to repeat himself), but he was asking me questions about my medical history. I told him I don't know him and I don't give info about my medical history over the phone to someone I don't know. He said to have a nice day and hung up.

Called my cell phone number, but left no message. Showed Dominica as location. Always look up these unknown numbers before calling back and when no vm message is left. Most are scams, like this seems to be.
the calls just keep coming, they never say anything, and if I'm not here or don't answer the phone no message.
I can hear in the background that it sounds to me like a boiler room operation.
Needless to say very annoying.
Call from Dominica, said it was about medical procedure and the guy had such a heavy accent I didn't understand what he was saying besides that. Lots of background noise. From what others have said online about this number, it's a scam to get you to stay on the line so they can use your number for calls. I am trying to find a way on my cell to block this number; found a lifehacker article on how to block numbers on your cell: http://lifehacker.com/5602865/whats-the-best-way-to-block-a-number-from-calling-my-cellphone
