Said he'd gone to Calif for a funeral, was riding with a friend, got stopped for speeding, cops found small amount of cocaine in friend's trunk. In jail, could I send $2500 bail--
When I checked with my friend later, he knew nothing about the call, hadn't made it, wasn't in Calif. Obviously, a scam, trying to get money out of somebody.. Pretty clever delivery on phone... asked the right questions.
Caller name: Hydro Power
The call was a telemarketer (or scammer) who had my name, address and home telephone (land line) number. He wanted to talk to me about my Hydro bill. I told him I don't have one (I don't!...my house is off grid). He had a heavy accent and I could barely understand him. I told him my number is on a "do not call" list...so he was breaking the law by calling me. I'd like to report him, but the number he was calling from is apparently a Google phone number...and I when I tried *57 to trace it, a recording advised it could not be traced.
this is indeed google's number. It recently added a feature to gmail where you can make calls from your PC. Well guess what? Scammers got on to the idea and often use it to make fraudulent calls. If in doubt : block the number. Whoever called you from gmail will pick up their real phone if they really want to reach you..

I believe Verizon uses this number to rack up minutes here and there on random numbers. Let me explain. If you get a call from a number & they get your vmail, they can keep your line tied up for 5 minutes just leaving and erasing msgs. Then you call the bogus number back, using another minute of your time. Then they call again later, asking for some odd name on your voicemail. Some will call the number back to tell them they have wrong number. This is another minute or 5 of your Peak time minutes. See? They can do this sometimes to add up to lots and lots of $$$ if you go over your minutes. This is very organized and intentional. It's a big money maker. Wrong number? Somebody you don't know on your voicemail? Don't call them back. They will realize it's wrong if they are legit. Your bill will show harrassment if you never call it back.

Call did sound like someone I know but with a muffled voice. Said he'd gone to Escondido for "Steve's" funeral. Was riding with new friends, got stopped for speeding, cops found cocaine in friend's car. Could I send $2500 bail. I told him to call his mother, he said he was too embarrassed. When I called my friend later, he knew nothing about the call, a scam, trying to get money out of me. Clever delivery on phone..he baited me to ask the right questions
Passed himself off as my grandson (after I stupidly fed him that information). Similiar Sandra Nelson's call. Had been to a friend's funeral, etc. & needed $2800.00 bond. Finally wised up when some things did not fall into place, Told him i did not have that kind of money & needed to talk to his mother. Also checked with PD where he was supposedy being held. No records.

This number came up on caller ID, but it was actually someone I know and this is not their number? Connection sounded very distant, we hung up and I redialed the callers real number. Why would this number come up when it was from someone else?
Caller name: unkown
I get constant hangup calls from this number. Sorry do not believe it has anything with google. I have a landline phone and when I pickup they hangup, plus their number is blocked so you cannot call them back. Why is the FCC allowing this to happen.
