These folks have called my mother several times and are intimidating her. They say say they are from the police department and that she needs to make a donation. They know her first and last name and have frightened her with their frequent calls. She lives in Oklahoma. The calls are from Florida. Their continued calling is quite upsetting for a senior citizen living on her own.

Caller name: POL PROT FUND

Always check your phone Caller ID first and if the caller is not a friend or business you know and trust, or from your local calling area, then never answer the phone ... let it ring while you go do something else. I'm surprised at the number of people that answer these scam calls ... are they really that dumb or clueless about scams?!

In response to:

why does "apple" allow this

They cant be turned into the AG for the do not call list due to the fact that they are a Non-Profit Organization and the Do not call list does not apply to them. Best thing to do is just hang up or just not answer.

Caller name: POL PROT FUND

As many people have listed, this is a group that collects for various police department "whatevers." Please do not donate to these groups. They give only a very small portion, usually $.10 to every dollar! Unfortunately, the do not call lists do not apply to these callers as they are considered charities. They can call and they are making a profit!! Again, please give directly to your local police departments (as I do) and not to these paid collectors/ scammers!

Caller name: Police Public Awareness Fund

This guy called and said he was from the Police Public Awareness Fund who collects donations for police sponsored activities. I questioned why they were calling me from New Port Richey, FL and I live in Indianapolis, IN. They said they receive donations and send them right back to Indiana! I knew it was New Port Richey because my creepy ex-husband lives. Coincidence? Not if you knew him! I refused, he didn't like but finally got him off the phone.

you are irelands winner.Your phone number has been chosen to recieve a prize .Go to http;// www.apple .ie the contest .info tp claim now

Caller name: Police Protection Fund

Companies like this are known in my area as scammers. They call in the name of the Police and claim that your donations go to the retirement fund of policemen or something like that. Don't fall for it! Of the money they collect in the name of the Police, MAYBE the police see .02 to .10 cents of every dollar.

If you really wish to support your police department, CALL THE POLICE and ASK THEM where you should donate your money to. They will give you the CORRECT information that gives the MAJORITY of donated money to THEM.

Have called two days in a row. I don't answer. I'll file them with all the other calls like "Bank Svcs", "Auto Sales" "Unkown Caller", etc.

Probably all the same outfit in some "boiler room" monitoring computer generated calls. When someone finally answers, they pull out their scripts and hope to get lucky.

When they get caught, they just move on and set up with another set of phones and start again.

Did these creatures ever hear of making an "honest" living?

Collecting money for the police. Sounds legit at first, but why would a group located in New Port Richey, Florida be soliciting money from me who lives in Central Indiana, Indianapolis? What a scam, a total crock.

Well, they have expanded to Ohio now. 2 calls in the past week; no message left and no one on the phone when answered. Hard to tell them to quit calling and being a nuisance if they won't speak when spoken to. Caller ID shows "Pol Prot Fund'.
