Let us post a small security sign on your lawn, and we'll install a "free" home security system.... I wished I accepted the offer so that i could jerk them around a little. I particularly enjoy giving them the hope that their scams work, then I slice their throats!

Coincidence? Call from this number + San Antonio TX (210-520-6400) x2, then same day call from 866-469-4907 (toll free number) and was ready to figure out wtf was up with this random flood of spammy-looking out-of-state numbers. Long story short, I can't say conclusively all is related to this last number but I rarely get calls at all, and the persistence and timing just seems fishy. The last number was a scary sounding computer-generated voice, female, that quickly said HELLO then went directly to a call xfer that rang and rang and rang.. I waited, let it ring maybe 30x, til finally I heard someone open and close/hang up the phone, along with a beep, and the call ended. I then did a google search and this 866 number brings up a suspicious looking "Rooter and Plumbing Repairs Dial Toll Free 1-(866)Then" (that's not a typo, that is the name of this "business"). So I continue reading various google links to sites like these and numerous posts about it being a scam, or collection agency, or a collection agency scam... I decide to call back the number and I get an automated voice speaking really slow, male tone, and I wait and don't push any of the options for xfers, finally a woman picks up and I ask if someone at this number called. Immediately she replies, is this __[my name]___ ? I say, maybe and continue on saying I'm not willing to share information until I know who I'm speaking with and get some answers. She says they are ACA collection agency and jumps back on her interrogation. I ask her to supply some sort of proof to verify her affiliation. She Gets really angry/defensive at this point and in a mocking tone asks me how I want her to verify that. I said well I would think if you are a legitimate company trying to establish some sort of decent relationship you would gladly find any way to verify, as to assure me you are trust worthy.. I'd also expect that in wanting to gain trust you would be understanding of the fact that your industry has a serious reputation problem as well as the fact that some of the biggest scams out there are posing as debt collectors. She snapped back demanding I verify my address and I said I'll speak with someone from ACA when they are able to verify what I asked. And hung up. These guys whether scamming, or simply using deceptive tactics, are breaking laws. Report the numbers and any info you have to cfpb.gov (if you believe they are a collection agency or posing as one) or google "how to report scammers."
