User Complaints for (717) 349-2409

In response to: Senior citizen annoyed all day by unwanted spam/telemarketer calls

Hard of hearing senior citizen constantly being called by unwanted spam callers trying to sell something or trying to get personal information. We do not want constant calls all day and do not buy or give money or information to total strangers calling to sell us something we do not want. We only buy from stores nearby, never from cold callers. Please stop calling us. We have been on the do not call list for many years. And still the telemarketers call every few minutes 7 days a week, some starting before 9 am. This unwanted call came at 12:03 pm. Other complaints say it's a telemarketer. We don't buy from anyone calling and bothering us. They call our landline phone simply because we are retired and very elderly. Please stop calling us. If we want to buy anything, we will go to the store or call the person that we want. Most of these unwanted calls come from people who are trying to get something out of elderly people at home, something we don't want to give to total strangers such as money for items we don't want or need, or information because the callers may think we are too old to enjoy our golden years. To all telemarketers and solicitors of things to sell. We don't want to buy. We will call you if we want to buy. You don't bother us with calls. It's annoying to have to spring up like a chicken to answer the phone and strain to hear your noises. Please out of courtesy, stop the unwanted phone calls.

No, I don't answer, but keeps calling with same number different names. Unwanted calls to hard of hearing senior citizen. I do not answer calls from solicitors, people asking donations for charities, or telemarketers, etc....because we control who we buy from. Been on the do not call list for years, but these unwanted calls keep trying sell us things we do not want and are not interested in. We only buy from stores we know and have checked out and read reviews from customers. Please no more calling us from these numbers.

717-349-2409 called this afternoon on Thanksgiving and disturbed our peaceful day of gratitude. This number calls several times a day several times a week. Please stop calling us. We are not interested in buying from you, giving out personal information to total strangers, or dealing with anyone we don't know. What type of commercial business would keep calling when not wanted and call yet on Thanksgiving or on any other non business day? Please stop calling us. We are on the do not call list. What business would bother an octogenarian couple on Thanksgiving? When my husband asked who's calling, there was a lot of buzzing noise on the phone, and we hung up.

- Very annoyed senior citizen getting multiple calls from this number and other numbers.

What is porting answered by an online website:

FAQ: Transferring Phone Numbers

1. What is port eligibility?

Port eligibility is the process of confirming that your phone number can be transferred (or ported) from your current carrier to Ting. To be eligible, we must offer coverage in that area and our network partners have to have numbering services available.

Your number also has to be active; if you've deactivated your number, we can't port it for you. Lastly, toll-free numbers are not eligible for a transfer.

The system will check all of these things for you when you begin the number porting process but if you have not yet it is extremely import to check your phone using our BYOD Tool to see what networks it can use and what SIM would be required.

If you wish to confirm a number can port to Ting you can check here
2. How long will it take to port my phone number to Ting?

On average, transfers of mobile phone numbers take 2-24 hours. If you're transferring a land line, Google Voice or other VOIP number, it will take 5-7 days.
3. Will I still be able to use my phone while my number is porting?

There will generally be no service on the number while it transfers. Once the number has made the move to Ting you will receive a confirmation email with the steps to complete activation to get service through Ting.

It would be much the same if porting from GSM to CDMA with Ting, or vice versa.
4. Can I port a number to a data device?

No. Numbers can only be ported to phones.
5. How will I know if there's a problem with my number transfer?

Problems with number ports are usually the result of a mismatch between the information that was submitted in the port form and what your current carrier has on file for you. If we run into a problem while porting your phone number over to Ting, we'll email you to let you know. This article also outlines what to do if there's a problem.
6. What happens to my current wireless service after I transfer my wireless number to Ting?

If there was only one number in your account, it will automatically be canceled; however you may want to get in touch with them to make sure the account is closed to be on the safe side.
7. Do I need to cancel my current service to complete the number transfer to Ting?

No, in order to transfer your phone number to Ting, your service/number must be active.
8. Do I continue to pay my existing wireless provider while my number is being transferred to Ting?

Yes. Do not cancel your service while your phone number is in the process of porting to Ting. After the number has successfully ported to Ting we suggest that you call your old provider and ensure you will no longer be billed for that phone number. If needed we do offer assistance with any ETF payments the previous carrier may require
9. Your number transfer form requires a port out pin from my current carrier, but they didn't give me one. What should I do?

All of the fields in our number transfer form are required but if there are pieces of information that your current carrier doesn't require to transfer your number, just enter a place holder in the field (e.g. 1234). Since your current carrier isn't checking those fields, it doesn't matter what you enter in them. Most carriers do have a pin requirement though. Click here for more information.
10. What if I'm transferring my number from an iPhone?

If you're porting your number from an iPhone to an Android, Windows or feature phone, you'll want to disable iMessaging first. If your number is currently on an iPhone and will remain on an iPhone, there shouldn't be any complications and your Apple services (Facetime, iMessage etc) will continue to work over Wifi during the port.
11. What if I'm transferring a number that I had in another city or state?

If you move from New York, with a local number to Los Angeles, people calling you would be dialing a long distance New York number. So to be fair, if you move to another city or state, it might make sense to change your phone number so that people in your new town or city can reach you by making a local call. We will not bill you additionally for the usage, but it may make more sense to have a local number so that those calling you do not pay a surcharge, depending on what carrier they are with. If you decide to go with a new number here is how on GSM or CDMA

I keep getting calls from this number and they don't leave a msg. When I call back a recording repeatedly states that this number is out of service. The recording sounds official like it is from the phone company. I call right back and I get the recording that the number is out of service.
