I got this too! For the second time today. I tried calling, just because I'm paranoid, and it's the same guy twice and they say they have to look up my account by my email address and then can't find me. Then they put the link to FinCen.gov. I called and emailed them asking about it... I'll update if I get a response.

Caller type: Unknown

I confirmed with FinCen that this is a fraud. Hope that's helpful for others.

I received the same letter via email threatening prosecution for money that I do not owe. It is very upsetting that the scam artists have my social security number.
There has to be some way to stop these people

In 2016, I received the exact same email from a "Jack Smith" regarding a loan I had supposedly taken out with some cash advance company that I've never heard of. He stating that I had 48 hours to contact them at 716-803-8039 and make some sort of payment arrangement or I would be prosecuted for the following:
(copy and pasted from the email)

[1] 18 U.S. Code ? 1033 [2] 18 U.S. Code ? 1037 [3] 18 U.S. Code ? 1030 which includes Criminal Breach of Trust, Violation of Federal Banking Regulations, Check Fraud Charges, Breach of a Legal Contract and Theft by Deception.

Needless to say I did not call the number and I blocked the email address. Have heard nothing since then. Sorry Jack!!!

Received an email with lots of red lettering and capitals. I had to laugh when I saw the FinCen marking on the email. I work with the actual FinCen on a regular basis due to my job. I will have to print this out and fax it to a few friends there so they can look into it. They find these amusing and send them on to other departments to try and get these scammers located.

Concerned that they have my s.s.#. They need to be arrested for getting people's personal information. I personally did a fraud alert on my credit report in case these scammers try to use my s.s.#.
