Caller name: Some Lady

Caller type: Telemarketer

I missed the call, so I called them back. I've worked plenty of jobs on the phone, both incoming and outgoing, and so I grilled the lady about what her scam was, because like most people, I don't put down my real number for anything. I got her to explain that they try to milk about $10 for shipping (fully refundable) for some product that's supposed to save me money, and they give out $100 Walmart card and $20 card for something else. I tried to get her to crack, but she seemed to handle herself well. All you do with these people is take control of the call and tell them to politely f**k right off. The goal of places like this are reaching elderly and disabled people who are most susceptible to giving out important information over the phones. I feel bad for most people on the other end because they are just trying to make a few bucks....Its the companies who are somehow legally able to run these types of businesses that get my full amount of disdain. f*****g scum of the planet.

Scam. They call and hang up after one ring, if you call back it is a scam about a $100 gift card. Interesting way to get around the "do not call" registry.

There are many ways they got your number. A number of Apps give permission for them to get not only your phone but your contact list also. Check the permissions you allowed when you use these apps. Never even heard the cellphone ring here.

DO NOT CALL BACK! They think that they are working around the do not call list by calling, letting it ring once or twice and then hanging up! It's a fishing method to get you curious enough to call back! Once you've called them back, they've avoided the do not call law altogether because technically you called them... However, I might call them on my day off just to mess with them LOL "Hello, my name is Gina Tampon and I am interested in saving some money...!" Hahaha it will be a good laugh just to make them mad.

Caller name: SCAM ARTIST

Caller type: Scammer/Fraudster

WTF is going on here! The SCAM ARTIST asked for my first and last name without pausing or taking a breath after telling me that I've won a $100.00 rebate for Walmart.

I asked the scammer what's WALMART, do they sell like wall stuff? The scammer paused as if they didn't know how to answer the question, the scammer replied by saying "It's a General Store and they sell everything. So I asked scammer if I could use that $100.00 rebate card to purchase an industrial carpet cleaner so that I could get the blood stains off the furniture and carpet. The scammer didn't answer the question "IT" just kept repeating "what is your first and last name" so I gave a bogus first and last, then IT wanted my address so I told scammer YOU CAN'T COME OVER there's blood on the furniture and carpet where would you sit once you got here? Not mention I look horrible from being beating and sitting in the ER all night and day.

IT called my cell phone so I'm calling them back every 10 mins. using different phone # everytime. THIS IS FUN!!! Stay toned for more horror stories.

I am on the "do not call list" and my number is supposedly 'unlisted' but it doesn't seem to stop them from calling on a regular basis all times of the day and night. No message is ever left and I don't answer phone calls from numbers I do not recognize. I wish someone would do something about these calls. Certainly makes having your name on the 'no call list' fruitless.

Apparently, a virtual army of scammers is using phone numbers registered with bandwidth.com VOIP, masking their identies via exploitation of bandwidth.com's technology: plenty of complaints on their Facebook page, including from the hijacked dentist's office: https://www.facebook.com/bandwidth?filter=2

Her's the article/video via Miami CBS Local: http://miami.cbslocal.com/2014/03/17/ft-lauderdale-dentist-claims-phone-number-was-hijacked/

Bandwidth.com appears to be oblivous to consumer complaints.

This is happening all across the country as well as in Canada. A Google search using the keywords "bandwidth.com calling and hanging up" produced a ton of results reporting complaints about numbers associated with bandwidth.com: http://search.aol.com/aol/search?s_it=topsearchbox.search&v_t=keyword_rollover&q=bandwidth.com+calling+and+hanging+up

Threatening phone calls:

This 707 area code phone number is also registered with bandwidth.com: http://www.whitepages.com/phone/1-760-282-4216

*Scammers are using the number to impersonate law enforcement, attempting to "collect" on fake payday loans, threatening people with jail and lawsuits over loans they never took out, demanding personal financial information, according to the complaints: http://800notes.com/Phone.aspx/1-760-282-4216#p695387973788807460

I started researching tonight, which is how I ended up reading this article. We've been getting calls on our land line several times daily for several weeks now. They show up on caller ID as "out of area" (except that they're calling from our area code). I never answer as I don't recognize the number and anyone masking their identity isn't getting the time of day from me, but my husband insists on answering the phone when they call. Whenever he answers, there is no response, just background noise. My husband called the numbers back and received messages indicating that the numbers are "not in service."

So tonight I looked up two of them. One of the numbers is listed as "unknown in Colorado" even though the caller is calling from my area code. The second one is listed as belonging to bandwidth.com, Colorado Springs, CO: http://www.whitepages.com/phone/1-719-325-8760 ***

I filed a complaint with the FCC this evening: https://esupport.fcc.gov/ccmsforms/form1088.action

I suggest anyone receiving such calls look up the numbers online at Reverse Lookup White Pages and then report them to the FCC if the caller is harassing you or repeatedly calling and simply hanging up/not responding.

Otherwise, file a complaint wth the FBI if the caller is making suspicious threats of legal action. Local law enforcement may also be contacted. And as this friendly dentist just showed us, contacting your local media is a good way to get the word out in addition to filing a complaint.

All of you are so gullible to think that DNC list really work. FCC sells license to telemarketer and provide them the DNC list for which telemarketer must abide by the rule when making call. They will check on the complains filed whether a telemarketer has the license, either direct license or licensed by another license telemarketer, to determine the penalty.

Called my phone 15 Nov, rang once and hung up, no message. Did not call back. Searched area code and prefix before this site...that site stated number is from Las Vegas, NV. How is the location of the number changing? Owned by bandwidth.com; unknown caller. There should be a law about callers like this. The number should be blocked by carriers to protect customer's privacy. I think the carriers make too much money to care...they just like to charge more for a blocking service.

I do not return any unknown numbers as it just allows caller know someone is alive at that number.. If your number is removed from their call list nothing prevents them from selling numbers, especially those which call back..

All calls from this number have been reported to donotcall.gov except the October call.. Sadly our dysfunctional oligarchical plutocratic government has forced internal departments to their knees..
