Caller ID showed as "Cell Phone NV." Got 2 calls from this number today, about 20 minutes apart around noon local time, the 1st being a robocall. The 2nd CID just said "Unknown Name" from same number with no answer after several "hellos."
The robocall was from the infamous "John" from the shipping department claiming someone paid for this system for me. The recording starts out with "Hi, uh, this is John from the shipping department of Emergency Medical Alert, I was calling to uh schedule a delivery of your medical alert system, it's uh the "fallen, and I can't get up" type of system you've seen on TV. Looks like the system's been uh recommended by thousands of hospitals and medical professionals. . . ."
Over the last couple days got the identical call/recording from 805-570-6779, supposedly in California. Have gotten the same call from several other numbers in the past as well.
I had the same situation as Jim, who commented above. "Cell Phone NV" I also am getting this call from multiple cell phone numbers. I'm not sure it was a recording, though, because when I started to tell him that I'm on the do not call list and to please not call again, he started off with some new line which was different from what he said to Jim. However, he/it just kept talking, so eventually I hung up.
SCAM/FRAUD/PHISHING CALL TARGETING SENIORS/THE ELDERLY. This is a realistic-sounding (to make you think there's a real person) recorded robo-call... same schtick Jim describes as a dude named "John" proffering an emergency medical alert system "that's already been paid for" as if it's a done deal, to the effect it was "ordered by a friend, neighbor or relative" out of alleged concern for an elderly person... then a more robotic sounding voice comes on at the end with instructions to press "1" to have the thing shipped and "2" "If a system has already been installed." DO NOT RESPOND IN ANY WAY. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR INFORMATION. THEY ARE TROLLING FOR INFO TO SEE IF THEY HAVE A WORKING NUMBER TO PESTER. HANG UP AND BLOCK 'EM!!!
I also got this call. When i asked to speak to his supervisor, i was transferred to Bill Gates. Bill said he was in a meeting with the deposed king of Nigeria, but glad that i transferred to him. Because I forwarded his message to 10 other people, he mailed me a check for $1000.
My 87 year old mother is now a widow as of Oct. 6th of this year. Someone from this number has called her house several times before. Until we got caller ID for her, we would answer and a recording would come on that he was going to send her some type of medic alert device. Now we have the number and I want the calls to my Mother's phone number to stop. They are very upsetting to her. Her number is 806-857-2139.
Said we ordered a medical alert system and that it was being shipped, appeared like a real person bur then sounded np cost to us was paid for and that shipping was free. Then when i objected trurned into a robo call. I declined the offer and then called back and removed my name from the caller. This is a total scam.
The caller id said it was from CTY. I don't answer if I don't recognize the number. Rang around a dozen times. I've had this same caller, same number call a number of times in the past few days. It never does any good to argue with them so why even talk to them at all?
You should never post a personal number on any open blog such as this, especially your elderly mother! Anyone with internet access wordwide could see this. Hopefully she didn't get bombarded with crank calls or worse.
I again got the call from "John" -- the same realistic Robocall. Before he completed the 1st sentence, I hung up. Blocking the number may help for the short term, but they'll just start calling from a different number.
