Caller name: John - Emergency Medical Alert

Caller type: Scammer/Fraudster

Caller ID showed as "Cell Phone NV." Got 2 calls from this number today, about 20 minutes apart around noon local time, the 1st being a robocall. The 2nd CID just said "Unknown Name" from same number with no answer after several "hellos."

The robocall was from the infamous "John" from the shipping department claiming someone paid for this system for me. The recording starts out with "Hi, uh, this is John from the shipping department of Emergency Medical Alert, I was calling to uh schedule a delivery of your medical alert system, it's uh the "fallen, and I can't get up" type of system you've seen on TV. Looks like the system's been uh recommended by thousands of hospitals and medical professionals. . . ."

Over the last couple days got the identical call/recording from 805-570-6779, supposedly in California. Have gotten the same call from several other numbers in the past as well.

I talked to AT&T harrassing calls department and they informed me there is nothing they can do about it. They gave me the number for the Federal Trade Commission and I filed a report there.

1-877-382-4357

Now if they get a million more complaints they might actually do something other than take reports.

I tried selective blocking and that didn't work. They changed the number to 805-408-4238.

Getting calls on a daily basis from 702-705-7302. I dont answer if I recognize number as a telemarketer or if it is a number I dont know. They have left numerous messages about an emergency system someone has purchased for me and Oh, wait someone actually paid the shipping for me!!!! After several calls, I decided to answer, as soon as I said "hello" the line went dead. I have answered several times since then, but there is never anyone on the line.

When blocked the number, they were able to get around it someway. Comcast couldn't even give me a straight answer of how they do it (landline carrier).

Got 1st call about 3 p.m. local time today, the female robocall from "Senior Assistance Program" with the offer for $3000 groc certificate and of course the "Free" medical alert system. Hung up after 1st few sentences.

I went our briefly after 5 p.m., and when I came back this number had called again, with blank message going to answering machine.

The caller ID had the letter V followed by a bunch of seemingly random numbers. I didn't answer, but let it go to the machine (is that what the kids still call it? "The Machine"?). No message left.

I Googled the number, it brought me here and now I'm leaving this post. I notice that some others have received a call from this number after the death of a loved one. My father passed away recently and I'm the closest next of kin and executor of his estate. I wonder if its connected to those public records.

Same as Jim above. Also on the do not call list. Pressed number 1 to arranged delivery - to talk to a live person - asked to be removed and told them they were misrepresenting them selves and trying to scam the elderly The robocall was from the infamous "John" from the shipping department claiming someone paid for this system for me. The recording starts out with "Hi, uh, this is John from the shipping department of Emergency Medical Alert, I was calling to uh schedule a delivery of your medical alert system, it's uh the "fallen, and I can't get up" type of system you've seen on TV. Looks like the system's been uh recommended by thousands of hospitals and medical professionals. . . ."

"Uh, this is John from shipping, your alarm is already paid for..." SCAM robo call

also called from: (805) 570-6779 | (425) 406-9436 | (201) 499-0217 | (201) 367-1691 | (610) 755-8482 | (484) 483-6286 | (732) 510-5497 | (610) 257-7095

This one's slick, I actually thought there was a live person on the line the first time I heard this call. I could hear him flipping the pages of paper he was reading and I was all set to "play" with the caller when I realized that it was a recording. I wish I had a nickel for each time he said "...uh..." Following is the text of the recorded robo call...

"Hi, uh, this is John from the shipping department of Emergency Medical Alert, I was calling to uh schedule a delivery of your medical alert system, it's uh the "fallen, and I can't get up" type of system you've seen on TV. Looks like the system's been uh recommended by thousands of hospitals and medical professionals, uh, let's see, says here that the system's already been paid for. Looks like you're getting the system because uh either yourself, a friend, a family member or maybe even someone you know has experienced a fall in the past so uh again it's already been paid for so there's no cost to your whatsoever. Also says here that the shipping has already been paid for so to uh schedule the delivery of your Emergency Medical Alert System press 1 uh again to uh have your system shipped out to you press 1 now...press 5 to decline the shipment of your system...."

Same basic story as above. I let him ramble on for about five minutes to chew up his phone bill. When I asked where his company was based, he said "New York." I said how can you send one of what he'd billed as "qualified EMTs" from NY to another state, he said "oh well we just call 'local authorities'". "You mean 911?" "Yes." "So why do you need to train EMTs?" "Well, that's in case you're in NY." "What's the fee?" "No fee, no contract, no obligation. We just ask you to pay one month's fee." "How can you require a month's fee if it's no fee?" "Well it's no obligation." "You mean I don't have to pay the fee?" "One month only." "That's our contract?" "There's no contract." "Then how do I have any obligation"? I then told him he was committing fraud, violating the Do-Not-Call Act, and might want to relocate before he was sent to prison, as I'd be reporting this to the FTC, local police and the DOJ. "What fraud!?" he demanded. Then it was time to make lunch. "Bye-bye."

Third day in a row from this number, couple times a day. Changed the robocall message today, however. Now it's the female voice used in the past with the bait of giving a $3000 grocery certif plus the "free" medical alert device for seniors. Says to press 1 "for more details" (i.e. the fine print about the fees for the medical device).

Also says to press 5 "to be removed from the 'opt in' list," which infers they claim we received the calls because we opted in (or asked to be contacted). I asked a live agent once about this, and she had a vague response that I must have checked a box or something when I bought an item. Untrue!!

You should never post a personal number on any open blog such as this, especially your elderly mother! Anyone with internet access wordwide could see this. Hopefully she didn't get bombarded with crank calls or worse.

I again got the call from "John" -- the same realistic Robocall. Before he completed the 1st sentence, I hung up. Blocking the number may help for the short term, but they'll just start calling from a different number.
