Caller name: Unknown/REFUSED to identify
I was auto dialed. Pressed #3, a female rep came on the line after a minute. She asked if I were Betty "Somebody" (I am obviously male). She categorically refused to identify her company repeatedly. I promised to report her to the FCC if she didn't identify her company, but she in essence said "ok" to that as if that didn't matter in the slightest. I demanded to speak to her supervisor & she refused, saying she was the supervisor. Hung up on me. I called back & again demanded to know the name of her company "immediately" and that if she didn't tell me immediately she would telling it to a lawyer. She said "the lawyer then". This company has zero regard for the law or privacy or the "National Do Not Call" registry, which I am on. They need to be taken down, and taken down HARD, by the FCC!!!
Caller name: Said US Bank
They called, verified my name, and said that I owed 1000.00 to US Bank. I never had a US Bank account yet they had my name, phone # and last 2 of ss# address and said they would see me in court if I didn't comply. Scamming Scumbags! I told them to go ahead and try, I'm broke F*** You! Click!
Caller name: Melinda Gomez / 6317558308
Called asking for my spouse. Gave name as Melinda Gomez but had an Asian accent.
Was attempting to collect and apparent debt from 2005. I've researched scammers like this in the past and what they do is they purchase *very* old "write-offs" from various organizations for pennies on the dollar, and attempt to collect using threats for the gullible. Even if you pay $10 for a $5000 debt, they still come out ahead: you've legitimized it and they've made money. DO NOT PAY or offer to set up payment arrangements, etc.
They CANNOT add it to your credit report, take you to court, or whatever else they threaten. The most they can do is call...and call...and call. You can block the number instead of depending on the Do Not Call list. Most smartphones and carriers offer that option.
You could also report to the FCC as well to get them shut down.
Bottom line is: ignore. Don't let them get under your skin.
Computer activated voice stating very important call regarding case number xxxxxxx - time sensative to call immediately to avoid further action. Did the same thing to my son for over a year, now they are calling my cell phone asking for him. Contacted my attorney and local police dept. who advised us to contact FBI - scam. When my son actually took their call last year they said "someone was on the way to his house to arrest him" if he didn't pay with cc or debit card right then and there over the phone.
I would assume this is a collection agency, and they were looking for my niece, who lives in another state and I don't have her phone number. They did hang up o me once I stated that I didn't have contact with her. They actually questioned why I didn't have any contact with her. That's none of their business. But they wouldn't tell me what company they were or why they were calling; just gave me a file number and a phone number to call back.
