A very sweet girl called and advised I had qualified for a $9000 grant from the government in Washington DC and all I had to do was promise not to spent the money on gambling drugs or alcohol. Supposedly I have been awarded this grant because I have not claimed bankruptcy or been arrested in 6 months. Wanted me to call back with Grant Claim # WG1020 @315-636-0113 and then there was a security deposit I would need to put down one time for $248 I requested they take me off the call list and do not call me again
Phone rings but I don't answer it and let machine pick up. Breathing is heard and something about IRS and then line goes dead. IRS? This is Canada.
I then tried to call back the number and there is a recording that states "this number has not yet been assigned".
All of our information is being sold to random companies out there, this guy calls me with a hardcore indian accent buy gives me an American name, i was annoyed by him and told him to stop calling my number over and over again. Even i block this number they use a different one. the funny part is I don't even have a credit card
Got a few calls from this number claiming to be the irs and it is urgent! That's I call back to avoid further action. Can't these low life durka's find something better to do? I mean come onnn, isn't there tons to do in big rock Illinois.. Like cow tipping, corn picking... Staring a the "big rock" If I get one more call from these lovely idiots, there's going to be another red dot between their eyes.. And it won't be from a tattoo gun...
I just saw this number appear on my cell phone. I didn't answer, as if I get a call from an recognized source especially not when its from a state in which I do not recognize the number. Then Google it after.
I came up with your posts to see that it is a scam or is fraudulent in some manner. Thanks to everyone's warnings!
I don't answer my phone unless they are listed in my contacts
A) I get a metric a*s ton of calls from people trying to reach consumer affairs my number is either very close to their own. Misprinted on the CA's website. Wrong area code used. So on and so forth.
B) I only answer calls from numbers in my contacts. If it's a legitimate call, even if mistakenly, they will leave a message.
I'd like to reiterate my thanks, also to remind people to NEVER give anyone who calls you, personal info including: DOB, SSN, FULL NAME, MAIDEN NAME, ADDRESS, ETC. Legitimate companies will not call you asking you for information.
Caller name: would not give name- said IRS
This number called my mother and told her that they were calling from the IRS and that she was going to be arrested for Fraud on her taxes, she became so scared!!! I googled the number and obviously they are trying to scam her.
Male caller with a distinct Indian accent called. No name or other info given. Stated that he was calling about a 'problem' with my wife's computer. (There is no problem!!!) Definite 'scam' attempt to obtain access to personal computer data or to sell some phony 'virus' repair. When I attempted to call the number on caller ID back, (630-318-4762 Big Rock, IL.), found that number was not-in-service as it had not as of yet been issued to anyone. This caller appears to be using this number as a 'spoofed' number in order to conceal his real identity.
I have gotten daily calls from this number. At first they claimed to be from PSEG, and were trying to sell me some new service. I politely said I no longer have PSEG since I moved several months ago. They said they would remove my name from their "list", but continued to call. Eventually I called PSEG and they told me this is definitely NOT them! I keep getting calls from this number now, but the calls are dropped once I pick up.
Caller name: Sam
Said he was from Yahoo. And that my account had been hacked. One in Texas one in Alabama . Asked me who I had shared my password with. Told him no one. His reply, are you sure? Also that a man named JOHN JONES had made numerous complaints about me sending him improper and unwanted posts. Told him I'd take care of it. He asked how, that was what he was calling for. Told him I would not share any info with him then he threatened to delete my Yahoo account . Funny, how yahoo is now checking on medical compensation, insurance, and numerous other things for us!
Caller wants to give me a 7000.00 govt grant. Said she can send it by western union or put it in checking acct or debit card. I knew it was a scam, but was curious.Told her I would choose western union, and she gave me phone number 253-218-1547 and code AK 405. I knew better than to call, because some scams con you into calling a number and several hundred dollars is charged to your phone bill.
Caller name: IL, USA
After skimming a few of the messages, I want to report that these scammers have a new tactic. I just received a robocall telling me that my Direct Express debit card had been frozen and to press 1 for the Security Dept. Direct Express is the card for direct deposit federal benefits. Luckily I don't receive any benefits so I knew immediately that some thing us and hung up. Seems to me the govt should be able to shut this number down if they are trying to commit fraud in the govt's name???
My cellphone rang twice this afternoon. This phone number showed up on Caller ID each time. No message was left on VM the first time. I declined the call the second time. I blocked the number after the second call.
I used to report these calls to the FCC and no-call lists, but I stopped. These agencies are obviously powerless against spoofed phone numbers. That needs to change.
