It's CBV collections calling. 9/10 they won't leave a message. The reason is because by law they can only contact you so many times in a week (I can't recall the exact # of times off the top of my head), but if they call and you don't answer, if they don't leave a msg, it doesn't count as a contact. Leaving a voicemail, or speaking with you directly (obviously) counts as a contact. The majority of times, by the time they contact you, the debt they are trying to collect has already passed the statute of limitations for them to be able to take you to court to recover the debt. In Ontario it's 2 years (it varies province to province). After it expires, as long as you don't verbally acknowledge the debt, or make a payment, the debt cannot be enforced. If you do acknowledge it, or make a payment, it resets the 2 year clock. That being said, they will continue to call...over and over and over again...blocking the # won't stop them, they have dozens of #'s they call from. The best way to stop it, is to 1 - pay the debt, or 2 - answer the phone when they call, ask why they're calling, most importantly ***DO NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THE DEBT***, ask them for their mailing address, and let them know that you are disputing the debt, then send them a registered letter telling them that you dispute the debt (amount is wrong, you never purchased the service, etc) and suggest they take the matter to court. Plain and simple. Once you do this, (the letter must be registered), they are no longer legally allowed to contact you, and they definitely cannot take you to court as long as the statute of limitations has expired. That being said, there are a few debts that are exempt from the statute of limitations act - taxes, tickets or fines issued by a government agency, that sort of thing. You can easily look up what kind of debts are not covered by the statute of limitations, and as long as the debt your being harassed about is protected (chances are if it's been sold to a collection agency it falls under the statute), sending the registered letter should stop the calls. If it doesn't, they're breaking the law, and you should file a complaint.

Calling to collect a "debt" supposedly from Rogers from 10 years ago! I'm still a Rogers customer with no issues and have great credit so I don't think they are legitimate. They might be fishing for identity theft information as they keep asking for personal information. I have blocked them.

Calls multiple times a day but won't leave a message. When I did answer they don't say who they are but they are calling to collect on a debt (to which I don't have). They switch you over to a "superior" who becomes aggressive when you won't give them your personal information to "verify" you are the person they are looking for.
