This is a scam !! Avoid at all costs even if the number shows up during an Internet search for the Microsoft tech number. The actual numbers have pre-fixes in the 800. Go to the actual Microsoft store site and you will find actual numbers, but even then be careful about turning your computer over to them because the number could get hi-jacked. Last year I got caught in the mess with this 425 number: hours to deal with one problem, which they me er fixed and they caused another one. I paid the 45.00 ransom, then immediately stopped the payment for the charge and closed out the card, changed all passwords, and did a security sweep of my PC. When I called the customer service number from the site today after purchasing Office, when the tech person came on, I just told her to tell me what to do because I would not let anyone control the computer remotely. Even with all of this, today I got a call from the scammers which was a a hang up when they got my answering machine, without leaving a message. In any event beware even when you call the correct number, but totally avoid this one. It is a scam.

I am receiving repeated calls from this number since I initiated what I believed was a chat assistance with Windows 10 issues on what appeared to be the Microsoft Windows support website. When the instructions given to me by chat were not working, I was asked for my phone number and was phoned. When a 2 hour attempt to fix the problems was still not working and I refused to disable Bluetooth, I was told that the supervisor would call me the following Monday. I began to get calls that night at 1:00 am and have been getting regular calls and emails since that I don't answer. I subsequently re-Googled Microsoft and talked to them about these calls and was told that was not a valid support number or procedure. I was able to uninstall Windows 10 on my own and have not been having further problems, so I am hopeful they were not able to access my computer. I am still concerned.

I was scammed back in February and March of 2017. My computer had been locked and I received a message saying to call for assistance. I was told they were Microsoft Technicians and in February it cost me $299. They called again in March and charged me $399 but left spyware on my machine. I got Microsoft on the phone and was informed it was a scam and had to have a technician spend several hours removing all the spyware. Now, I keep getting phone calls from these people (today with above phone number) stating my computer has been hacked again. Today I called the Microsoft Corp again who told me they never call their clients and told me to report this.

This is a Microsoft legitimate number. I work as an IT provider and this is the number that usually comes up in calller ID. I am sure this number can be spoofed. The best rule is to use common sense. Microsoft will never call you for no reason. They usually call because of a support request or something related. If you did not contact them in some way this is probably a scam.
Caller type: Unknown
To Facts:
Sorry Bo, there are rare instances where Microsoft WILL call you. To make a blanket statement like that is ignorant. Being a Microsoft partner, I get calls at least once a month regarding my partnership.
Granted if you are consumer I wouldn't trust a call from Microsoft UNLESS you initiate the call. Perfect example is their Office 365 support. When you call support, they sometimes create a ticket and will call you regarding that ticket.
This number happens to be a number that Microsoft may call you from. Problem is that with number spoofing, it could really be anybody.

Though any phone number can be spoofed, the call I received was legit, It was a response to an email I sent Bing about approving ad content. I was only surprised that she called on Labor Day.

I strongly suspect "MS tech support's" client list is infiltrated/hacked, or they have a "rogue operator" as their employee.
I contacted MS this afternoon through their chat service regarding a problem with MS office 365. A tech support person called me back and took over my computer. It took 1 hour and 19 minutes but the problem was resolved. Then tonight (11.17 PM) I get a call from the same number.I hung up when I sensed it was a robot call, only to be called again minutes later. I blocked the number and tried to contact MS. Unfortunately, the person who responded to the chat request was someone who dealt with Xbox. It took a bit of effort to explain that the problem I was texting about had nothing to do with an Xbox. The best I could get out of him was that he will notify the relevant people to have my telephone number removed from the list, so I don't get any more calls. I don't think he appreciated at all that their could be a potentially serious problem. The reason why I think the scammers/unwanted callers have access to Microsoft's data is because I never received a call from this number, until I contacted them today and provided MS my phone number.

I went to Microsoft's on line help center and requested a call back since I had been waiting almost an hour for online chat and got stuck. This is really scary since you think it is a legitimate call back. Hi said his name was John D. He quoted me some prices on help and said he would email me info but I never got anything. The next day I chatted with what I hope was a real Microsoft tech person. He did help me and never tried to sell me anything. There are so many people out there claiming they work for Microsoft. Why can't they be shut down??????

I called tech support at 6 p.m.Tuesday. I was supposed to get a call back in 13 MINUTES. This number called 3 times at 1:26, 1:28, 1:30 A.M. Wednesday and hung up after two rings. I blocked it. I hate Microsoft. Even if I were on the West Coast that would have been too alate to return a call.IDIOTS.

Found this listed on my telephone bill this month. 2 apparent calls made by be costing $1.75. Do not recall telephone Microsoft on my mobile.
Seriously weird because if I'd rung international, I would've known. More weird as the time here (around 4-4.30pm) was midnight to 12.30am USA time.
A scam IMHO!

I asked for Microsupport tech support and it said I would receive a call in 1-2 minutes. An hour later someone called me from the above number. They claimed to be Microsoft tech support, but they weren't. The number is out is service.

Caller name: Microsoft

MS called with a case #, unknown to me. Asked him what it was in reference to - he rattled (poor english) something about email. Since we are upgrading some of our email accounts, I thought it was safe. I said OK, what do you need? Then he proceeded to ask me to allow him access to my machine to "fix" problem (we are only upgrading accounts, no changes are needed). Scam. This call just happened to coincide with our upgrade but it wasn't related.

Trying to load Office 365 on new computer. Did the run around with these jokers for two hours. Finally I hung up after they were trying to sell me an upgrade for $79 and couldn't get the credit card to work. Found "Get Office" icon on my new computer this morning. Clicked it, entered my email address and it set itself up, no problem. I'm thinking the guys at this phone number are "scammers" all the way.

BLOCK! BLOCK! BLOCK! This number, registered to Microsoft, calls at all hours of the day. I never contacted MS support nor do I have a trouble ticket open with them. NO! Microsoft does not call you "out of the blue" the help you fix a problem. THIS IS A SCAM AND ANNOYING AT 3:37AM!

A Microsoft guy calls asking for a specific person in the IT department or a manger. If he is not connected to them or is asked to leave a voicemail. He calls back several times; 3 times from a Microsoft number and then 4 other times from a private number and 2 times from an anonymous number with screeching sounds and nonbusiness like comments. How does Microsoft allow this to happen??
I keep getting calls from this company so called :"Microsoft, " they call from different #'s & different area codes, on my cell phone and my home #. I have file a police report and the police have sent it to the FBI. I have been keeping a record of all of the #'s. But the bottom line is no one can do anything as they are from the Middle East not America, so no rules or laws apply to them.

It's Microsoft. You most likely worked with them at some point. For example, they called me after I had contacted support to fix my phone. They wanted me to rate the person who helped me.

I did not answer caller as I did not recognize the number but they left a voicemail and it was a follow up from Microsoft Consumer Service if the office 365 problems I called about was fixed. The caller did name the CS employee's name who helped me so I know it was not a prank call. The caller said he would send an email and asked me to reply to it so I did.

I've received 7 calls with 2 voicemails from this number. The voicemail were long, one was 5 minutes long and the other was nearly minutes long. They did not state any names or messages, only music was playing, I can barely hear someone scuffling something in the back ground in the message, but it was mostly music and when one song was done, the caller switched shuffled to different song. This happened for both voicemails.
When I received those calls, I was on chat support with Microsoft. they had asked for my number. But, never indicated that they will call me. Very unprofessional and this is 100% scam. They could not resolve any issues at all, but called to harass. They called after 11 and around midnight. Bill Gate should be ashamed of such support system he created. He needs to look into the type people he hires. This is complete scam. Microsoft should be sued for this.

I was on a support call with our company's internal (outsourced) IT helpdesk, and we hung up with her to call back later. When she tried to call back, I got three beeps and then white noise, and she got a busy signal. This happened 4 or 5 times. The phone number that showed on my phone was 425-635-2970, which is NOT the phone number for our IT helpdesk. When I called the number, I got Microsoft Tech Support, and the person I was speaking to said that their number was not 425-635-2970, but 800-642-7676.
I assume that both I and the IT helpdesk have IP phones and there is some sort of corruption or possibly hanky-panky going on. The IT helpdesk person I was speaking with told me via IM that they are having some sort of issue with the phones at the Helpdesk call center.

A man with an accent I could not place wanted to know if my virus attack problem had been solved, and he wanted me to verify the Confirmation number. I was suspicious and I told him I didn't want to give him any information, that I didn't feel he was really from Microsoft.

This is legit. Microsoft has called me repeatedly and it is VERY annoying. However, they're calling me in regards a subscript for office 365 that is about to expire but always seem to call while i'm at work and so forth. Can't take the call but they do leave a voicemail after calling 2-3 times. This string of calls seems to only happen once a day.
I just wanted to add this post about this number because I know what they're calling in regards to is legitimate and I have a follow-up email which I did reply to during office hours and they then mentioned that in their next attempt at reaching me via telephone on the voicemail they left.
I only looked the number up myself because there had been a gap in the time period of them calling me about the same expiring subscription with Microsoft. I had forgotten the number and therefor no longer recognized it. I quickly remembered when i seen some of the results on this website.

Not a complaint......I contacted Microsoft through its contact page and called 1800 642 7676 for support, the rep I talked to help me with my laptop and informed me he would call back when the next 2 hrs to make sure everything was ok. He called back from the number everyone here is saying a scam number. The number 425 635 2970 is not a scam number. Plus it was 7pm when I called them and he called me back at 9:35pm, so yes if they are following up they will call that late.

Legitimate Microsoft call at prearranged time, with ticket number. That being said, anyone can spoof a caller ID these days to look like Microsoft. So, if you weren't expecting the call at a prearranged time, with your Microsoft ticket which was the result of YOU calling them to report a problem, then I'd hang up. I get a ton of those spam calls. This was a tier 2 technician who fixed the problem with Windows Updates that I had several tickets open about.
