(408) 819-9781 recorded 16 August 2017 (Computer voice recognition screening and live agent for Home Solar Solutions solar panels offer') SCAM!
Caller ID: "V816115952106505704"

A clever computer voice recognition screening and live agent sales call from Solar Home Solutions. I gave the computer screening a hard time by constantly asking "Lisa" how she was doing and she always replied and thanked me for asking. Usually these automated voice recognition calls thank you for your time and politely disconnect if you don't follow their carefully guided questions, but this call was easy to lead off track. It qualified me to speak to their live agent even though I didn't accurately answer their questions. This was complicated by a heavy echo on the telephone connection.

Their "shotgun" approach to making mass phone calls, and their total disregard of the Do Not Call list certainly tells us a lot about their business ethic, doesn't it?

The best way to prevent these scammers from calling you is to make them NOT want to call you in the first place. The best way to do this is to sound like you're interested in their offer, but waste their valuable time while you pretend to be interested with their offer. The following call was over 23 minutes long before they disconnected me when my answered showed I was not qualified for their offer.

Here is a transcript of their unwanted, intrusive, insulting screening and sales call:

"This call is now being recorded."

<me:> "Hello?
<Lisa:> "Hello, my name is Lisa. I'm calling from Home Solar Solutions. How are you doing today?

<me:> "I am doing fine Lisa. How are you, Lisa?
<Lisa:> "I'm doing great, thanks for asking. What we are doing is calling people in your area that are interested in significantly lowering their electric bill or possibly eliminating it completely. The cost of having solar panels is covered by the incentives in this program, so there's no out of pocket expense for you. Is that okay?

<me:> "Lisa, hello? How are you?
<Lisa:> "I'm doing great. Thanks for asking. My job is to see if you qualify for this promotion and find out if you want to take advantage of this program. Is that okay?

<me:> "Please tell me about the promotion, Lisa.
<Lisa:> "Great. Now this call may be recorded for training and compliance purposes, so the first step is to see if you qualify by asking you some very simple questions. Do you own the property or rent it?

<me:> "Are you Lisa? How are you, Lisa?
<Lisa:> "Is the home owner available, please?

<me:> "Speaking. I am home owner.
<Lisa:> "Okay. What type of home do you have? Is it a single family residence...

<me:> "How are you?
<Lisa:> "...mobile home or condo?

<me:> "Single home.
<Lisa:> "Say that again please? Perfect. If you took a twelve month average of your electric bill is above or below $100?

<me:> "Yes.
<Lisa:> "Say that again, please.

<me:> "Yes, it is.
<Lisa:> "Perfect. If you took a twelve month average of your electric bill is above or below $100.

<me:> "How are you, Lisa?
<Lisa:> "Okay. So far it looks like you qualify just fine. If we can show you how there will be no upfront cost to you while allowing you to dramatically lower or eliminate your electric bill completely would you be interested in finding out more?

<me:> "How are you Lisa?
<Lisa:> "Okay, it looks like you prequalify for the program. Now, I'm going to transfer you to one of our solar specialists. Just...a...second...okay?

<me:> "Okay.
<Lisa:> "Hold on just a moment for me, okay?

<me:> "Okay...[doip] [doip] Hello?
<Brian:> "[loud background laughter] I thank you for your patience. My name is Brian Andrews. I'm here with Solar Solutions. How are you today?

<me:> "I'm fine Brian. [echo Brian] How are you today?
<Brian:> "I'm great. Thank you very much for asking, I appreciate it. Um, it's my understanding that you're interested in learning more about solar energy, and it makes sense possibly switching to it. Is that correct?

<me:> "Yes. [echo yes]
<Brian:> "Okay, great. So I need to let you know that this phone call may be recorded for training and compliance purposes. Now the first step is to see if you qualify by asking you some very simple questions, um so first of all, are you the owner of the property or do you rent it?

<me:> "Owner.
<Brian:> "Owner, okay. And what type of home do you have, is it a single family, townhouse, mobile home, or a condo?

<me:> "Single family.
<Brian:> "Single...family...detached. Okay. Alright. Um, so what would be just an average of your monthly electric bill?

<me:> "An average?
<Brian:> "Yes, of your monthly electric bill, if you take a twelve month average?

<me:> "Okay, summer and winter...
<Brian:> "How much?

<me:> "Forty five.
<Brian:> "Forty five dollars, on average?

<me:> "Correct.
<Brian:> "Okay. Well the things that, and then [unintelligible]

<me:> "Correct.
<Brian:> "Hmm, I think that bill has to be at least $100. Do you think it could be hundred dollars or higher? On an average, or not at all?

<me:> "Uh before the... it used to be over $100 before I got solar cells...
<Brian:> "Okay, so can we say that as of now, uh, it's an average, it could be $100 or higher or not?

<me:> "Well no, since I got solar cells it's fallen down now to about $45.
<Brian:> "Oh, so you already got solar?

<me:> "Yes. [doip] [doip] [he disconnects without saying anything]

From Campbell, Calif., possibly spoofed number. Usual spam/scam pattern. My home answering machine picks up, a few seconds of silence, no message left before 'caller" hangs up.
