This is a legitimate health study conducted since 2001 by the UCLA Center for Health Policy Research. The National Do Not Call List is intended to prevent unwanted phone calls from telemarketers. As a legitimate, scientific health survey that is not selling anything, the California Health Survey is exempt from the Do Not Call list. The calls do not come from Westwood as the interviewing is outsourced to a survey research firm.
If you want to call and find out about the legitimacy of the survey you can call toll free 866-275-2447.

I have been getting 2 calls a day from this number for a month and a half. I don't want to participate in their study and they still are trying to get me to take part in it.

There has to be another angle to these jokers. I have been receiving calls 3-4 times a week for the better part of 3 months. I answered 1 time, explained that I was not interested, and to take me off their list. I am also on the do not call registry, I have filed a complaint.

I don't think they are a real survey group or have anything to do with UCLA. I'm a Bruin, but I never used the phone number that they keep calling during my days on that campus. They always call late at night or early in the morning. They are located in Culver City, not Westwood. I've asked them to stop calling, but they call every single day. Possibly, a phishing scam.

Said they were taking a poll (poll is a legal scam to get around the fact this is an unsolicited call), she admitted my number was random aka we have know idea who were calling (also known as spam). I told her I worked for the FCC and wanted to know if her Dialogic Cards (Dialing cards made by Intel used in higher end Predictive dialers) were registered with the FCC? She didn't know what that was... I told her I was not a resident of California. My cell phone has a 707 area code which is a bay area number. Moved out long before CA went bankrupt. If this number calls you just use the same m.o. you are from the FCC, I bet they 310-845-9104 never call again!

BTW New Smart Ones Oatmeal I will never buy your product in the verification "SOLVE media" captcha.

I have been called from these people numerous times for a few months now. I finally called them back today and informed them to stop calling. She said they are calling about a health survey. The woman said they would remove my #. Stop the harassment or we will take further action!!!

UCLA for California health survey. Just participated in the survey. They pay $25 if you complete it, but it is a lot of information and took about 30 minutes. The verification number they gave is for Dr. Ninez Ponce at 866-275-2447. They did call me several times before I answered, but never at inappropriate times, so I am surprised at some of the comments that say they call at 10:30 pm! Maybe that person is using a CA cell phone but in a different time zone?
They are trying to call cell phone numbers only.

Glad to see there was clarification on the legitimacy of this survey on 1-16-14. That poster is right that the Do Not Call list doesn't cover surveys and not-for-profits.

A few things you should know about survey calls....

1) They will always call you back, as it often takes multiple calls to get a scientifically valid sample.

2) They often call in the evening because that's when people are home.

3) The best thing you can do is pick up the phone. They often use calling algorithms to determine when to call you based on past calls. So if you ignore calls at a more convenient time, you may get calls at an inconvenient time (e.g., later).

4) If you don't want the calling you at certain time (or at all), just call them back and tell them that. Any legitimate survey research center or company will gracious about accommodating you. They want you in their study, so they will work around you to make it work. If you're willing to do the survey at all, they will call you back when it's convenient. They will often break it up into pieces if it's too long, and of course you can answer or not answer any questions you want. But you have to call them and get that noted in their system. Any legitimate survey will be upfront about who the researcher is, funder, etc. If they are not it is a scam. It's not a scam just to call people multiple times.

5) If you think you're getting a call that's fundraising under the guise of a survey, you can report it here. http://www.aapor.org/source/StandardsComplaints/#.UvgRnWJdVXE
Please do, as these and other kinds of irresponsible telemarketing give legitimate surveys a bad name. Thanks!
