Latest people reported the number as that of "Automated, Said my debit card was blocked. My bank would have contacted me. I just hung up."
Said Mastercard debit card had been blocked. My debit card is a VISA and isn't blocked. Have been called twice, second call didn't leave voice mail. Just deleted the number and won't answer if it calls again... pretty obvious scam because of missing digits in number.
The call came in from an incomplete phone number. When I answered it was a very poorly created automated message. It sounded like someone used the text to speech option on a computer. It stated "We regret to inform you your master card has been locked to prevent fraud. Please press 1 to talk to our security department and we will be glad to assist you."
Got an automated voice mail at 7:25 from this number saying my debit card is lost and to press 1 and I will be directed to the security department. Called my bank instead and was told it was a scam to get my information so they could start spending my money without me being aware of it. My debit card is not lost - it's in my wallet. This world is full of a**holes.
Received call 9:19am 10/29/13 telling me my Chase mastercard had been deactivated and that I needed to press 1 to reactivate. Only problem is that I don't have a Chase mastercard. Dialed 1 to confront the scammer only to get the same message repeated and was then asked to enter the card number. I'm sure that if I continued it would have asked for the PIN too. The voice was done by a really poor quality text to speech program.
As others have mentioned; my MasterCard debit has been blocked; press 1... Which I did; only to hear the same message. Then I realized I don't even have a MC debit card so I hung up. When I first saw the "253" #; I thought it was a local call because 253 is an area code in Seattle. I didn't see until later that there's only 8 digits...
Called from Kent, WA and said it was Chase Bank and my card had been deactivated, press one to reactivate card. Then they asked for my card number and I hung up. Checked on chase online to see if any such thing had happened to my card. No alerts or holds came up. This is a scam and you should beware. Never give your card numbers to random callers.
