Why when calling the number back I get a disconnected number message. Something should be done about these callers. Why not a 'Do Not Call List' for politics??

I did not pick up (never do if it's an oddball number from an unfamiliar area code). Caller ID showed this number and "QVD".

I figured it was probably a sales call but they left no voicemail. So much for being on the "do not call" registry.

All calls that are coming from numbers with local area codes that use the name QVD in their caller ID are telemarketers that are breaking the FCC regulations. QVD is "Quality Voice & Data" a company that provides local phone numbers to telemarketers in an attempt to get you to answer the phone. First go to the FCC complaint site and report the phone number: https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx Then go to QVD's site and leave them a comment with the number and as much information as you can to let them know that their clients are violating not only their rules, but Federal regulations as well. http://www.qualityvoicedata.com/contact-us/ Maybe with enough complaints some of these jerks will lose their lists of numbers and maybe even get some legal action taken against them.

I work for JAK Productions/Area Services as a caller, this is a different company but virtually the same process. For those who actually read this, those of us that make these calls only do so in order to pay our bills and support our families. We hate our jobs with a passion. The do not call lists don't apply to fundraisers so just tell us to remove you from the list when we call. The system dials the numbers and send them to our computers we never see the number and have no idea where they came from. We start calling at 8am EST and end calling at 11pm EST and call nationwode. Please be understanding when we call... We feel your frustration and understand your anger but have strict script rules we have to follow including that we HAVE to rebuttal at least 2 times. Try not to yell us we aren't to blame we just need a job and its all we could find for the time being. You can ask us for the company's number and call them and complain cause they are the ones having us do this. Oh and that "records department" is just another group of us callers who are bound by the same rules and they are usually less than 2 feet from us. I got a call from this number tonight and explained who I worked for and that I understood what the caller was dealing with but I want to be removed from the list 3 seconds later I was off the phone. Just try to be nice to us when we call cause we don't like calling you anymore than you like us calling. Sincerely, A guy who hates his job and apologizes for needing money to feed his family

Just received my first call from this number today. Because I don't answer out-of-area calls from numbers I don't recognize, I don't know whether this QVD call was from a fundraiser or a pollster.
Thank you to all of the people who have shared info here, and for your time and effort. I am moderately disabled and will be having major spinal surgery soon, so I am highly motivated to nip these calls in the bud (though I know that there will be others).
I agree with earlier posters that one response is to contact QVD directly to complain and alert them to the fact that one or more of their clients are using their name in conjunction with harrassing calls. (Read posts from earlier in 2015 and late 2014 for contact info. and explanation of what QVD is.)
Another course is to contact the phone carrier that provides their services. According to this website (www.callercenter.com), QVD calls from the number (248) 507-4158 originate in Clarkson, Michigan and are carried by international communications giant Level 3 Communications. A look at Level 3 Communications' website (www.level3.com) shows that the regional office closest to Clarkson, MI, is the "Great Lakes" office. Their address is 6185 E. Huntley Rd., Worthington, OH 43229. Their phone numbers are 855-381-0415 and 614-569-0142. The Level 3 Communications headquarters are in Broomfield, Colorado, and their phone number is (877) 2LEVEL3 (which translates to 877-253-8353 on a standard US telephone).
A faster but potentially costly solution is to replace your home phone hardware with a set that allows you to block specific numbers from ever ringing through. Cellphone users have had access to this technology for a long time, but folks with older landline systems may have to spend $40 or more for a new handset and base system to gain the same function.
HINT: If you have an old but functional cell phone that does not allow you to block numbers, check to see whether it allows you to record sound and then to use the recording as a ring tone. The last time I was recovering from surgery, I was delighted to find that my old, $38 Tracfone lets me do this. To reduce unwanted annoyance, I recorded 10 seconds of silence and then set it as my default "ringtone." I set other tones for specific callers whose calls I wanted to receive. This approach didn't keep unwanted callers from recording long, annoying voicemails, but it *did* keep them from waking me up ten minutes after I finally fell asleep. And as long as I checked my voicemail every day, I never missed a call from a friend or physician using a different phone than their usual one.
A more long-term approach for those of us who are tired of being assailed by these callers is to gather support for reform of the existing laws concerning violation of privacy.
As it stands, FUNDRAISING and POLITICAL POLLING are NOT COVERED by the Federal Do Not Call Registry. Several posters to this and similar lists have expressed distress at the "failure" of the Do Not Call Registry because it did not protect them from calls of this kind. But the fault doesn't lie with implementation of the Registry. It was not created, funded or allowed to interfere with political polling and fundraising, but rather to restrict direct, unsolicited sales calls. Since the Registry is a weak and ineffective tool for preventing even these kinds of unwanted calls, we can't expect it to protect us from calls outside its mandate.
Hard as this might be to achieve, we need grass roots pressure on lawmakers and communications carriers to create regulations that balance the financial and data needs of fundraisers and pollsters with protection of privacy for the rest of us. As tempting as it might be to imagine wiping pollsters and fundraisers off the face of the Earth, it ain't gonna happen anytime soon. But they could be limited to, say, one call per number per day, to no more than seven calls to a given number in a 3-month period, and to not calling past 7pm. Repeated calls from these folks are a genuine health and safety issue for many people--not just an annoyance--and we need far more recognition of that fact by our lawmakers.

On do not call list! Besides breaking the law broadcasting wrong caller ID information they are probably pirating long distance phone charges that some phone company is entitled to.

Phone companies you monitor everything else, why not them?

Live fundraising solicitation call w/blocked Caller ID (x*x) yyy-zzzz recorded 07 April 2014 ("Laura of Innovative Teleservices" professional fundraiser for Childhood Leukemia Foundation)
Caller ID: completely blank

Note: called December 29 & 31, 2013 also from a totally blocked Caller ID

Live fundraising call from "Innovative Teleservices on behalf of Childhood Leukemia Foundation" using completely blocked phone numbers.

I never contribute to "professional fundraisers" because they rarely give more than 10% of collections to the charity and I wouldn't support this charity because of their conscious reliance on such an inefficient collection method.

Following is a transcript of this fundraising solicitation call:

[me] Hello?
[they] Hi, John?

[me] Who?
[they] Well, my information might be wrong. My name is Laura and I'm calling you today on behalf of the Childhood Leukemia Foundation in Brick, New Jersey. This year the Foundation is delivering gift baskets to sick children that are in cancer treament centers and these baskets have some really great things like toys and games, there's pajamas and even a $75 gift card inside. What we're trying to do is help lift their spirits as they go through their cancer treetment. I'm with Innovative a professional fundraiser and we have not mailed out anything to you yet. We want to make sure we can count on your support for a tax deductible donation. Most are helping with our Gold sponsor at $35 and Silver sponsor at $25. Can the children count on you for one of those?

[me] Uh, this is for children with leukemia you say?
[they] Yep, yep and we're, we're raising money for the gift baskets that I mentioned and also in addition to that the Foundation provides human hair wigs for the children who lose their hair during chemotherapy treatments.

[me] Uh, yes, I think I can contribute to that.
[they] Ok, would you like to do the Gold for $35? Or the Silver for $25?

[me] Uh, I'll, I'll go the Gold.
[they] I'm sorry, didn't hear you?

[me] Gold.
[they] The Gold for 35? Well that's very generous, now can I get your first name?

[me] My first name is Jason.
[they] And Jason your last name?
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
[ I provide her a fake name and address courtesy of FakeNameGenerator.com ]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[they] Excellent. Well first I want to thank you very much for your very generous pledge of $35, next I'm going to transfer you to our Records department. What they do is confirm the pledge. They're also gonna go over your address one more time, make sure I didn't do anything wrong and they're the ones who get the information together and mail it out to you and they uh they'll let you know what to look for in the mail, ok?

[me] Aw right.
[they] Please stay on the line sir, they'll pick right up.

[me] Awright. [you can hear me taking a deep breath]
[Records dept] Thank you for holding, are you comfortable with the 35?

[me] Yes I am.
[Records dept] (she verifies my address, asks if there's any "apartment or post office"?) Ok, um, you'll get it [pledge card] in about three days that's just when we ask you to send it back, ok?

[me] O h k a y .
[Records dept] All right, thank you so much, you have a nice evening.

[me] Ok, thank you, good night.

QVD keeps calling every day, sometimes twice a day. If you answer it is all a recording and asking for donations. Problem is there is no way to tell them to stop and then number they call from keeps changing. I followed someones suggestion about " First go to the FCC complaint site and report the phone number: https://complaints.donotcall.gov/complaint/complaintcheck.aspx Then go to QVD's site and leave them a comment with the number and as much information as you can to let them know that their clients are violating not only their rules, but Federal regulations as well. http://www.qualityvoicedata.com/contact-us/ "

I told QVD that if I have no way of telling them to stop calling, even if it is a legit call for non-profit or politics, it is still harassment and I will take action. They replied back and asked for all the QVD numbers that call me and I gave that to them and they will notify them is what I was told. I say everyone start contacting QVD and make it known. They are selling a service to others but their name shows up so I would think they are liable. Keep on it....

Called about 6 times in three days. I finally answered, and the caller smoothly said my first name and then proceeded to "ask" if I'd be willing to make a donation to "vets who've done so much for our country." I said, "Send me your info.'" He then suggested $20, but I said that was too much (I had no intention of pledging anything, but I wanted to see if he'd pay attention to my comment). He kept talking without acknowledging my remark, so I just hung up. At no point did he identify who "QVD" was, either, which was why I originally answered the phone. If they're a legitimate charitable organization working on behalf of vets, why are they hiding their identity? Interestingly, they've never left a message before. They know it'll be ignored. They just hire slick talkers whose job it is to get you to give them a credit card or debit card number. That's all they want.

Caller name: QVD

Caller type: Unknown

So I emailed QVD and a kelsey.olsen@qualitycontactsolutions.com responded back and asked for my number and all numbers from QVD that called. I was reluctant to provide my number but I did being I had email from her company asking, which I will use if I have to take action. She said she contacted all the numbers I provided and asked that I be removed. QVD sells phone numbers to other companies that are telemarketers but the number comes up as QVD. I told her that as far as I know it is QVD that is causing me problems as that is what caller ID states. I indicted to this Kelsey Olsen that if these calls continue to come in I'm calling local authorities and report harassment and show them the caller ID records and these emails sent to them. Everyone start flooding QVD or this kelsey olson with emails and they will figure it out. Oh I forgot, she also said I could call the numbers back and ask to be removed. My response is the number keeps changing, there is never no one on the line when they call me to request this and if I call an unknown number what other companies will start calling me. As far as I'm concerned QVD is liable for any call I get that reads QVD on my caller ID and I'm sticking to my story!
