This is a new number that started showing up today. On this number, the area code is out of 240 is for the Western part of Maryland. They serve Maryland's portion of the Greater Washington, D.C., metro area. So this could be a political call or one of several organizations known in that area looking for donations.
The way I look at it, if they do not leave a message it isn't important or urgent enough for me to worry about.
I regularly register on the Do Not Call (DNC) list about every 2 years to stay current. However, several years ago I picked up on a call. I was expecting a call back from my Doctor. But it was some charity organization bugging me for a donation, so to get them off the line and not be rude I gave them $20.00. That turned out to be a big mistake. That charity posted my number on one of there sites showing I gave, within a month or two, I was getting calls several times a day every day from about every charity you can think of. Evidently that DNC list don't mean squat if you donate to 1 charity. It got so bad, I had to screen all my calls and let everyone I knew to leave a message and I'd call them back. Even companies I would call and they needed to call back with information I would tell them to leave a message, most were very understanding about that.
Lesson here, if you don't want a bunch of calls asking for money, NEVER DONATE OVER THE PHONE!
Charities are great, I'm not knocking them, I donate to several when I can afford to. Just don't do it through a telemarketer that calls you.
Donate directly to that charity, call their main office and donate locally if possible. A telemarketing company that calls for a donation, keeps anywhere from $.20 to $.80 (Cents) out of every dollar you donate through them. Look it up, you don't have to take my word for it. But the telemarketer (That is who is really calling representing the Charity) usually keep most of the money you donate. That's how they make their money and pay their employees.
I want 100% of my donation to go to the charity, not a small portion of it. I don't even want a penny going to one of those damned annoying telemarketers.
One last thing, don't be afraid to "BE RUDE" to these jerks and just hang up on them. After 3 years the calls started to stop, now I get a few every month. But I still screen every call I get, but on the odd occasion I happen to make the mistake and pick up, I hang up as soon as they start their speech.
