Received a call today from a prison inmate. I do not know anyone in prison. Why do they have access to phones and are allowed to make random calls? Ridiculous!

Caller name: Los Angeles area

Receiving several calls with voicemails listing that "this is a free call from an inmate at this facility, to accept press 1, to refuse press 2, to block this number etc...How do these folks get phone numbers to contact whether its a scam or a prison/inmate?? You are damned if you do block and damned if you don't. We are also on a DO NOT CALL list but clearly that's not working in our favor.

Caller name: never heard the name

I received a call from this number on my cell phone. My cell phone does not have have an account to get these types of calls. Anyhow I did not hear a name of caller or anything like that, the recording just stated a call from Tyler Texas, and then switched over to spanish, letting me know which button to push to receive and which button to push to stop receiving calls from this prison. I was concerned because i do have a loved one in prison which I will keep anomynous for safety reasons. I did not personally pick up phone it was on my voicemail. Thank you for ur help and time.

While this number is NOT a collect call, it is a call from a correctional center. (Therefore, selecting "Prison/ Jail Collect Call" was the closest option available.
Caller ID identifies the call is originating from Los Angeles, CA. ... however, this is just a generic location, and the call can originate from any correctional facility across the United States. The individual receiving the call is not charged any amount of money, as the inmate calling is utilizing a pre-paid calling card to make the call. It's NOT a scam, it's NOT a type of physhing, etc. It is an inmate trying to speak to you. I hope this helps, as there are many incorrect statements regarding the nature of this call. I'm just trying to help! Best regards! :)
