This caller is not legitimate. The caller claimed to be from Citibank and left a message for me to call back with my debit card number to verify suspicious activities. I called the Citibank number on the back my card, and they confirmed that the call was fraudulent.

Called saying "Good evening, this message is for [my real name] my name is Tammy and I am with West Side Credit Services, please give us a call back at 1-888-908-0031 at your earliest convenience, when you call please enter [lists a really long number with letters, but it is garbled and you can't understand the letters she is listing] as well as security reference code 2212 Available. Our hours of operation are from 9 AM to midnight EST, and thank you for choosing Best Buy".

Can't imagine a credit service having a local number in San Antonio to call people from, and I have never applied for a Best Buy credit card (or even shopped there in years). Plus, the phone seemed so crackly that it almost felt like she was doing it on purpose so you couldn't hear everything she was saying. She never mentioned she was from Citibank or Radio Shack.

Message on my phone sounded official with reference number etc. asking me to call to verify information to proceed with my request. (4/10/17) My phone never rang - the call is set to go directly to voicemail. Apparently they do this to seem more legitimate and get you to listen to their message lending credibility. They called twice in one day and left the same message. My Red Flag?? I don't have anything to do with Citibank. Not calling them back.

This person called and said they are from Citi Bank from Costco and said that I was behind on payments. They tried to get me to pay my balance over the phone. I Don't even have a credit card from Costco so I do not even know why they called me. They tried to get information from me. Then she tried telling me all this information like my parents names and stuff. I could tell it was a scam right away.

Received voice mail message on home land line at 8:43AM (converted to readable message - so may not read accurately but still odd): "Good morning this message is for Stafford. Alright Dido. I'm calling from city regarding your city business platinum select credit card account. Please return this call at 1-855-688-0555. We're available from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM Eastern Time Monday through Friday. We need to verify your card information to avoid a potential eight pack days-of(?) your account. Thank you. We look forward to hearing from you soon."

Dont understand the message. Not my name & seems suspicious my type of message left. Very troublesome if scamming. C/C should only be able to use one 800 # on caller id which is published on CC website and can be tied back to company. Why aren't C/C conpanies or FCC looking seriously into these callers and blocking numbers if scamming? cardholders reluctant to respond coz too many fraudulent calls/emails these days.

BEWARE of this SCAMMER! Caller ID showed the phone number (210) 677-1346 and "Citicorp US Ser" and informed me that there are fraudulent charges on my Citibank card. They left me a 1-800 number to call, telling me to call them to give them my card number when I call. They even gave me a reference number to use when I call them back.

I looked up my account online and there were no fraudulent charges at all.

The caller identified herself as Alecia working with Citi. She said there were a couple of questions I needed to answer concerning an application and left 888-201-4523 as the call back number. Although I have not made any applications, I called the 888-201-4523 number and was prompted to enter my social security number. Instead of entering the number, I pressed 0 to be connected with a real person. They researched my information and said they had no idea what the call was about. Very suspicious!

BEWARE! Any comments above that say "yeah totally this is a legitimate number, "have been ENTERED HERE BY THE SCAMMERS THEMSELVES.

THIS IS PHISHING.

The message they left said they were Best Buy credit department; supposedly my husband had applied for a Best Buy card (which he would never have done - and he's out of the country, so I called to see what was up). They left a very official-sounding message with an 888 number for me to call and give a long "application" number. Once you've entered that number, they want your SS# - all 9 digits. Luckily I didn't give it to them though it wasn't till after the call that I did a facepalm because of COURSE. no legit operation ever asks for more than the last four digits. This is a bad scam! Awful phishing. Jerks.

Caller type: Unknown

This number is Legitimate. Please call the return number that they leave in a voicemail. I received a call and voicemail today. The caller identified himself as Jim with Citi Credit Services on behalf of Best Buy. He left a call back number, a Security pin # and a reference #. I called back, was discouraged when the recording asked for my SSN after I entered the reference #, but I kept keying the # on my phone and was transferred to a representative. I have a fraud alert on my account, many inquiries for credit under my name, so I had to investigate this. Yes, someone had tried to open a Best Buy account in my name with all my info. Due to the fraud alert at the credit bureaus, I received this call. I reached the fraud department of Citi Credit Services. They were so helpful and even helped me set up a 7 year fraud alert thru the 3 major Credit Bureaus. Please do not ignore. I did not have to give my full SSN to the representative.

A female caller said she was from Citibank and told my wife there was suspected fraudulent application. The caller said a scammer had my wife's name, but the birth date and address was wrong. Before the caller could ask our address, my wife, being the smart cookie she is, asked, "What address do you have? And how do you know my birthday is wrong?" The caller said she "wasn't allowed to divulge that information." Really? Citibank can't divulge a fake address or birthdate associated with your name? My wife hung up on her. The next call we made was to the police. Report filed.

It says calling from CitiBank about closing my Citicard and wants to verify my information, coincidently I did just close my checking account on prior day; I feel sort of strange after giving my Address, DOB and last 4 digit of SSN, and trying to call back for verification. The answering machine just says "This is Citi, for customer assistance please call 18009505114", this does not sounds like formal bank answering machine either.
In believing I am at risk of fraud, just called CitiBank to close all my accounts.

Called and left VM. Said they were from Citicorp. Left reference number and to phone them back or else account on hold. This was for bestbuy fraud alert. I didn't' trust them. Logged into bestbuy and confirmed there was a warning message and a different number to call back. I called that number, got it cleared up. I cannot confirm the call back number left for me on my VM was indeed legit but the call back to bestbuy credit (which is owned by Citibank) confirmed the caller's voice mail message.

Having received a similar call a couple days ago, I knew it to be a scam. I told him that I had not applied for a card but asked him for information about what the application said. He said he could not tell me without verifying my personal information first. I told him that if this wasn't a scam that I didn't apply for a card and to rip up my application. He said that he could not rip it up, but it would be kept on file for 90 days and then deleted if it wasn't processed any further. I then hung up.

It is the fraud prevention dept. I was doing a wire transfer and it was held up until they could talk to me to verify. This number is a processing center for Citibank in San Antonio TX. With IP telephony/trunk routing, its common that the number they call out on can be different to the number you call in on, such as an 800 or 877 number you call in on.

I received a call from this number earlier today. I searched on the internet wondering if it was legitimate and came across this site. the caller was alerted me of suspicious activity on my Citi card and told me to call back a number and have my account number ready. Sounds suspicious?? I did go onto my Citi account online and noticed no suspicious activity. However, I did reach out to the customer service number on the website just to verify. They alerted me that there was a hold on my account (I had just set up Apple Pay earlier in the day) and they mentioned that my credit card number was included in a security breach. I did have two odd charges that were legitimate (one at a convenience store out of state and one from my storage company) and they put the block on the account. They closed my account and are going to be sending me a new card as part of security measures. Even if you are unsure if something is a phishing scheme, still check it out. If i had just read this thread I might not have done anything but was glad that I called the REAL number on the Citi website and was sure that I was talking to a legitimate person.
