If you want to really shut this number down, or at least get an investigation going, call the authorities in your jurisdiction and tell them they called you and tried to sell you drugs.

That should get them interrested.

Ship horn blows in ear and promises vacation. The sheer volume of calls from this number to several government of Canada cell phones is disconcerting. DFAIT specializes in NOT telling other countries what to do (diplomatic corps, you understand), but it would be interesting for the FBI to determine who is behind this unprecedented level of activity, and whether it will start to interfere with American relations with other countries if the source of said abuses cannot be determined...

I live in New Brunswick, Canada, but I not from Canada or North-America, I don't know many people here and only very few have my phone-number. They call me every day, and have done that the last 3 months or so. It is very annoying, since I don know anyone from Texas, and I don't want to answer a long distance call. Looked up online, and apparently its a scam that I can do nothing about except change phone-number.

This has nothing to do with Iphones or downloading programs, since it kinda happens too all kinds of phones including my Samsung phone.

I just want it to stop, but if it doesn't in the next 6 months I will get a new number and change phone company. I'm now dealing with Bell.

I am more fortunate that many of you in terms of the number of calls received. I have received calls from this number Oct. 11, 17, 18, 19, Nov. 4, 17, 22. I do not normally answer calls from numbers that I do not recognize and 99% of my calls are from my home. I accidentally answered calls from this number on Oct. 19 and Nov. 4 and it was a pre-recorded message with sound effects from a cruise ship horn and a female voice inviting me to answer ten questions and that I would be eligible to win a free cruise ship vacation. I was asked to press numbers on my keypad in response to the questions. I assume my number was dialed randomly. Software such as "Family Feud" cannot be downloaded onto my phone. I would say this scam has nothing to do with software on your phone.

If you phone 210-280-8487 the message is "Your call cannot be completed as dialed. Please check the number and call again. 093P"

I suspect this is a scam to redirect long distance calls through your phone. In addition to the annoyance factor, when I do answer these calls I am billed for them. My advice is don't answer phone calls from this number and if you do by accident, don't respond to the ten questions. If you do answer the questions keep track of the numbers you press and report them at web sites like this one.

These calls are two things. First of all, your caller ID is of no use. They 'Spoof' the caller ID, what that means is they put in a bogus number that they stole from someone (you could be next if you answer your phone!) This way you can not call them back. You can read more at the link below.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caller_ID_spoofing

Second, if you answer and get no one at the other end, it's a sequential dialer searching for active numbers. What it does is dial ALL the number in an area code or prefix. The line rings, you pick up and it has voice activated equipment that can detect when it hears a voice, be it actually you or your answering machine, it now 'knows' it has a active line. It adds it to its list, hangs up on you and progress to the next number. You phone number is worth alot of money! The computer doesn't give a hoot where you are from, they are spoofing the phone company and dialing for free!

So, what can you do about this?...NOTHING!!!! Call the local phone company or your wireless provider, ask them...some will tell you they know nothing about it, others will tell you there is nothing they can do. Pretty sad when the phone companies can't even control their own networks!!!!

Scam saying they are Pacific Gas and Electric (energy and gas supplier for part of the West Coast) and that there's a severely past due balance. Claiming that if we don't pay immediately they are going to shut down our electricity/gas that day. The payment method can't be done over the phone or by calling PGE directly. Instead you have to send a Reloadit card at the local grocery store and wire the money to them so they can process it directly. The phone number they said to call is 844-859-5090.

Annoying calls on a nearly daily basis. I do not answer my business phone anymore unless I KNOW the caller. Fortunately, my clients have to work through email for tracking info, so I rarely get calls and can usually tell when it's BS. I picked up today, and a man started talking with tons of background noise. Just hung up, did a search, and found you wonderful fellow-complainers.

Unfortunately, this SCAM is STILL ongoing in 2015. I believe the reason why is that there are some VERY HIGH POWERED AMERICANS behind this - like CARL ROVE and the Republican Party. Saw a program on CNBC's American Greed about a SCAM VETERAN'S CHARITY that raised HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS via TELEMARKETING that ended up in the pockets of JOHN MCCAIN, GEORGE W. and CARL ROVE, among others. On top of that, the Telemarketers took a cut of **85%**, so that means THEY made BILLIONS.

DP - you listed excellent information. Thank you! In the event you did not know this, there is a web site for reporting these types of continual calls to an attorney's office. i had reported one and they responded back saying they needed additional information that I did not have. Wish I could remember but the site came up when I was looking for the site to report phone numbers to for people or numbers listed on the "National Do Not Call Directory". This company or these attorney's can get them stopped and you will get money paid to you. Anyways, wanted to pass it on. With the kind of documentation that DP posted, it should be more than enough to get something going!

This is the 3rd time I'm reporting the same woman calling me re: my utility bill, just from a different phone number. She's been calling on/off for weeks on my home phone (which most likely she got from the yellow pages). She'll call and tell me she's representing my South Jersey Gas bill (although the phone numbers she calls from are in San Antonio, Texas). She has an Asian/Indian accent. I always ask her to put me on the DO NOT CALL list or that I'm not interested and she'll either say "Ma'am this is my first time calling you" or she'll just hang up on me. I've blocked 2 other numbers and low and behold, she's called from a third. My boyfriend has even cursed her out, told her flat out it's a scam and not to call us anymore, and she just hangs on the phone and has the nerve to say "Are you done yet? I'm trying to save you money". UGH! I can't take these people! I've reported it to the FCC, almost every website I can think of, posted it on Facebook, added my phone number to the DO NOT CALL list but NOTHING will get rid of her!!!!!!!!!!!!

Caller name: Kevin, Planet Online Services

Caller type: Telemarketer

Like many people I have been receiving numerous solicitation calls from this number - at least 3 per week. Most of mine are from some company in India that claims to be Windows Support and needs to log-on to my computer and help rid of virus and error message they are receiving notification from my IP Address. Since this has continued for over two months I realized that it isn't the same company calling from this number each time. So I started logging date/time/conversation for each call. Some people are insulting and harassing but ultimately I continue to get calls from this number.

So after lots of research I was able to find out this information... 1.) This number is part of an automatic phone dialing system and when you call it back is says the number is not a working number. 2.) It is distributed or sold to companies that subscribe to a service and call center in order to use your number for harassing solicitation or fraudulent activity such as computer scams. 3.) Even if you asked to be removed from their call list it won't stop the calls because they just call on behalf of another company. In two months I have logged over 20 calls from this number and associated several different company names/stories (some of the 20 have been hang-ups by the machine but I have logged at least 10 of these calls. 4.) When you receive an automated call and it hangs-up prior to you speaking with someone it is actually logging information that your number is active so they can continue to sell/distribute your number to more companies. 5.) I have also been able to identify two (2) more numbers associated with this same service in addition to 210-280-8487; they are as follows...(210-301-0307, 213-519-7715). PLEASE be on the lookout for these number as well. It is a way they can continue to harass you without seeming like it is the same service or company.

I have no idea how my number and address got out there as I don't give out my home phone number to anyone. I also talked to Verizon about it but they stopped offering the call block feature.

Here is what I have done and please let me know if you have other suggestions...

1.) Log your solicitation calls - date/time/conversation, try to be nice and request removal from their call list. Also being nice can help you obtain critical information that will help provide details for you when filing complaints with phone company and the FCC. Whenever possible record these calls. Once I see a call coming I hit play on my cell phone and after greeting the caller I inform them that I am recording the call (have to for legal purposes in CA) and it helps prevent them from using a harassing tone.

2.) Make sure your number is registered with the national Do-Not-Call-List - it is easy to do online.

3.) Contact your local phone company armed with your detailed information and request their help. My provider is Verizon. They first tried to tell me they don't offer call blocking as a feature and couldn't help me so I persisted speaking with more senior supervisors and was more successful.
- A.) I made sure my phone number and address were unlisted and not available in any phone book (physical or online) through the phone company.
- B.) I spoke with Verizon's Research and Compliance department armed with my detailed information (888-512-8162 for the West Coast possibly a different # for East Coast). They informed me they would research these phone numbers and request the "carrier" associated with these number to block them completely from use to call ANY phone number - effectively shutting them down.
- C.) I also spoke with Verizon's Unlawful Call Center - 800-257-2969 (West Coast number - different for East Coast) to also prohibit these numbers from activity to my number or any other numbers.

4.) I haven't yet but you can also file a complaint with the FCC, forms available online.

5.) Lastly you can change your phone number however I am trying to take these steps first before inconveniencing me by changing my number and starting this process all over again.

I hope this helps and I encourage you to do the same if you are receiving similar harassing phone calls from these numbers or any other number. We have rights as consumers and most importantly as citizens.
