Just switched cell carriers and got a brand new number - my son & employer are the ONLY people who have it - got a call from this number (205)623-1372 today. I can't answer personal calls while at work so I googled when I got home since no Voice Mail was left
I am anxious to see how many more times they try to call

this company appears to be either a scam or a last ditch effort to collect debts they have bought from other companies for pennies on a dollar. they debt they are atempting to collect from be was a credit card i never remember having that was maxed out at 500 and never paid on in 2001. i think someone may have stolen my info and got it in my name but they want all of my infor so they can investigate. not gonna happen! this has never ever shown up on my credit report. block the number and dont worry about it.

Is not that they're (Portfolio Recovery) like many other low life debt collectors out there, these guys actually are among the more professional debt collectors - hard to believe, isn't it? However because they buy leads and debt in bulk, they acquire old and statute expired debt, right along with legitimate ones. Unfortunately is not going to help their bottom line to try to figure which is which, so they go after all of them. It gets nasty when they work an account for a while and there is no pay off. At that point for all their grand standings, their agents act no different that any other low life debt collector. And no - they will not listen to any arguments about the debt is old, paid off, or not your. All they want is some money (10 to 30 cents on the dollar) so they can get the supervisors off their back and maybe get a bonus. This company is a big one so they know how to get around federal rules. If you want to get them off of you, go through your state's authorities.

This company calls every day from different phone numbers. When I answer they have already hung up or it as gone to voicemail. However they do not leave a message. I spoke to them about a year ago and they are trying to collect fom a relative. As they have hounded and harassed us for a few months now I would never give them the satisfaction of providing information. There should be a law against this.

They call at all hours day and night. Have called on Sunday. Set up cell phone to reject their numbers and don't answer my home phone. They buy up debts from years ago and try to collect. It is illegal since the statute of limitation has expired. Only a matter of time before a class action suit is filed against them. Just keep hanging up or not answering until the suit shuts them down. Only other company that is worse is Santander. Thank goodness they got sued!

called them one time after they left some scary message about a subpoena with my employer and he starts asking me about an old debt that was part of a bankruptcy years ago. Gave me the bs about someone coming to serve me that day and how lucky iwas to have called...that was ayear ago. Now they leave messages from a hidden number talking About a restraining Order and have for hours to call..put it this way, if they had a legitimate debt, they could pursue legal channels but they do not.they are hoping you Get scared and pay them.

Second phone call in under a week. Cut off as soon as answered. Tried to phone back but number not registering at all. Just a nuisance.

Caller name: Portfolio Recovery

Caller type: Debt Collector

My Phone number isn't even registered in my name...how did they get my number? The debt I supposedly owe is expired on my credit report...No messages ever left and like many others if I do answer I get hung up on. The reason for this is that they can keep your "debt" open simply by you answering the phone. Don't talk to them...ignore/block the calls. They must be stalkers because my number is NOWHERE to be found....it's not in my name and it's a new number!!!!

Trying to sue me for an American eagle card to my knowledge I have never owned. Researched them and this is frequently done. It's actually based in India but they use American bottom feeder collections agencies like portfolio to attempt to collect a debt. I've asked for a signed contract between me and the American eagle company to show when I supposedly opened this card and when it closed to date they can't provide it. I also got a convient letter from a lawyer named Kim Thomas at the exact same time stating for. 250 she can make this go away. I said make what go away I have nothing saying I even had this card. She talks to the portfolio agent she gets 250 and they wanted 1,600 for a supposed 450 dollar card!!!! Wtf??? Scam all day. We need to file a suit against portfolio for attempting to collect fake debt. It's theft by deception.

Mostly, they ask to speak with (my name) and when I confirm it's me, they hang up. On the few occassions that they stay on the line, they demand that I pay them for some overdue bill, but won't say what bill or the original creditor's name. As soon as I tell them that leaglly they must give me that info, they hang up on me.

They call at work and cell every day from 205-623-1372 and/or 800-772-1413. They never leave a message..

call nothing said, no message, just hang ups, this company and others like them buy old bills for around 20 cents on a dollar, then go around using any means they can to try to collect, no matter how old the bill may be, a bill over twenty years old which according to law the statue of limitation has passed means nothing to them, my question is how do they get our cell numbers

Portfolio Recovery buys old debt that no one else wants and tries to harass people into paying. Do not answer when they call, DO NOT talk to them. Ignore them. If you talk to them, they could start the whole ball rolling again. The statue of limitations for suing someone in court over unpaid debt in California is 4 years. After 4 years, they can't do anything to collect a debt. Nothing. They can not garnish your paycheck or do anything after 4 years in California. Look up the law in your own state, google 'statue of limitations debt (your state)'. After 7 years, all negative marks on your credit report are removed too.

Debt collectors attempting to collect on a 14-year-old debt that was written off years ago. These guys pay a fraction of a cent for legally-uncollectible debt and try to get something for it. Don't fall for it, don't answer and whatever you do, do NOT make a "good faith" token payment - it may reset the statute of limitations and make you liable for the original debt, in full.

Call my home number multiple times per day! Now they are calling my cell phone leaving messages. But the kicker is that the calls are not for me, they are for my grown son. someone used his info to get pay day loan and instead of them checking that out they say he has to do a civil suit and they keep calling me. I am not responsible for my grown sons bills!
