Yes this is a scam. They tell you information about your computer then they ask you to let them log in remotely to fix problem. I was told yesterday that by now no internet access and computer would crash.
It is a lie
Received text at 5:45am saying i won gift card from Target in the amount of $500.
This person with a heavy Indian accent called and said windows was working on a temporary windows server. Said he needed to help me fix it. I asked him what company he was with. He just kept saying "Windows". I asked him where he was located. He said Alabama. Gave me the number of 205-352-4135 to call back because I couldnt get to my computer from that phone. He was very rude when I requested all his information and asked if I was from the d**n FBI. Told me I was going to wake up tomorrow and my computer wouldnt work. Whatever.
I got the exact same scenario as Anonymous above. Thick Indian accent, kept asking me don't you want to get this fixed and said he could fix it for a one time registration fee of $387.00 dollars. Once I paid the registration fee he would fix my computer. I told him that I didn't believe him and he said I could call him back at 205-352-4135. I called the number back and it sounded like a bunch of hammering in the background and then an Indian woman with a thick accent said she would call me back. How do they know how to do this stuff? Do we need to contact Microsoft about this?
Got called from 205 352 4135. The guy said he was responsible for managing Windows operating systems. They were monitoring my machine (????) and knew it was downloading a lot of viruses. I attempt at dismissing the call. The guy said we are here to help you. I ask for number and a name to refer when calling back. The number I was given is the one reported above; the name Brian Palmer (clearly not the name of the guy that was talking with me). I hung up.

Same thing happened to me, this person (thick Indian accent) called and said he was from the Windows server and my computer was going to crash in 24 hours unless they fixed it. I asked if he was from MS and he said Windows. He gave me a (fake) website and this phone # to call him back. I knew it was a fake but I called it back anyway to see what company name they would give and it was someone answering with 'Technical Department'. Scam! What is scary is that they had our ph#, address and name in their records

Got a call from these guys. Woman (Indian accent) told me that they are from Microsoft. They received a message from my computer that it is infected. She knew my computer ID#. I am a Microsoft Security Essentials user, so I presumed that they are from Microsoft. Most of the IT companies outsource to India anyways, so just Indian accent did not raise too many red flags. I was naive enough to let them log into my computer. The guy (David)with Indian accent was trying to demonstrate to me where the viruses are hiding in my computer and was trying to talk me into buying their tech support service. I started getting a bad feeling about this conversation. I asked them to leave their phone#. They left the number - 205-352-4135. Called this number and got a message: "The party you are trying to reach is not available. Please leave a message".
Now I just backed up all the essential files and will reformat my hard drive. All the passwords etc will be changed. Please be more careful than I was.
