Caller name: Windows Technical Department
Caller type: Scammer/Fraudster
The caller claimed to be with Windows Tech Support and insisted that my computer had been compromised by hackers. I asked him for the model number and/or seriel number of my computer and he smoothly told me that he could not tell me that because it's a software issue with my Windows operating system. I said, Ok, and sarcastically asked how much money he wanted me to send him. He said he didn't want any money. He then asked me to sit in front of my computer and open it. This is the point where he would have obtained remote access to my laptop and installed a virus forcing me to call him back to pay him to remove the virus he had installed, but instead, I simply told him I didn't believe him and hung up the phone. This is an old scam and I'm surprised people are still falling for it.
