Just got this same call on my cell phone. I was not excited about getting $9,000 free dollars, it didn't sound right. The guy sounded foreign which made me more suspicious. I was tempted to hang up but wanted to hear him out just in case. He said this money could be given on my prepaid cards or bank account. I knew that would require information from me. He asked which method I wanted to receive it in. I said "mail it to me" He said that wasn't an option. My scam senses went from caution to full alert. It then occurred to me that I hadn't heard him address me by name. If I'm selected, then he should know my name so I said, "what is my name? Do you know my name?" He then hung up on me. I wonder how much they wanted to steal from me.

Basically got a call from (202) 210-0054. Same story line as the prior comments except he told me that he was from the a new branch of the US government providing grants ($9K) for people being a good citizen. I googled the number as the scamster was talking and read everyone's comments. So I knew what he was gonna say before he said it. I asked for his Federal Government Employee ID number. He made up some BS number (V0510). I told him I worked for the government (I don't), and that I was gonna verify him by back-tracing his ID number and the number he was calling me from. I told him to wait a few seconds while I accessed the government online site. He hung up right away. LOL. I actually called back a few times and no answer.

I just got off the phone with a lady who said the same exact thing. So I had a little fun by asking her to say words that's hard for anyone to say if they're not american. I thought it was funny. Then she told me to call this number 202-407-9094 and speak with this guy Ricky to receive my money through western union. What a joke.

Caller spoke with a thick Caribbean accent; said the same as all the other comments - i was chosen to receive a $9000 government grant that did not need to be paid back. he spoke very quickly so i kept interrupting him and making him slow down and repeat. I asked for the name of the agency and made him say it really slowly - the human health Ageny....no such thing. I told him I would verify that this was a legitimate prgram and call him back. he got argumentative and was saying, "what, you want free money?? You could have this money in 45 minutes; just give me a credit card number, debit card number or bank account number!"

I want to know why this scam is still allowed to be going on and noone has shut it down? The comments go back at least a year!!

No phone number showed on my caller ID, only the name anonymous. The conversation was identical to those described above. I believe the woman had a Filipino accent and when I told her I was going to report this scam she told me she would hang on while I did it. I told her to call some other deserving citizen and she called me an old woman whose brain was not working right. Told her she should hope that's who I was.

I received the same call from the same # (202-210-0054) from a guy with a heavy mid-east accent telling me I would get $9,000. While he was talking I googled the 'Loyal Citizen Grant' & confronted him with the fact that it was listed as a scam.

I asked him if I could have his phone # so I could turn it over to the police. He used the '202' area code, but then the rest of the # was my phone #. When I confronted him on this he hung up on me.

Oh well, guess I'm out $9,000... }:-)

Lady with a thick accent called me and told me that I had won 9,000.00 dollars for being a loyal citizen since I paid all my bills on time, and had no criminal record.

When she said that I paid all my bills on time and had no criminal record I knew she was lying. I have a criminal and I do not pay my bills on time. LOL

I started laughing at her, and she hung up.

She must think we are all I all idiot's.

He said he couldn't do that. I asked him why and he said the only options were a bank transfer or credit card transfer and it had to be something with more than a 0 balance or negative balance.

I then asked him if he f*****g thought I was so goddamned stupid as to give him banking information over the telephone. He didn't have an answer and hung up.

Creepiest thing. Thick accent, can barely understand him, telling me I am receiving 7000$ Grant, that he is calling from the government from Washington D.C. I'm aware it's a scam but am wondering how they will go about this. They tell me I was randomly selected, haven't filed for bankruptcy in the last 6 months, and he says I don't need to give him any information only affirm what he will provide. Then he asks if my name is Jenny. And I said no, and then he goes you aren't Jenny? and I'm like no. And he goes then who the h**l are you? in a threatening manner. Terrifying.

I let him speak and went on to tell him that I would never give out my banking info or credit card info over the phone. He got frustrated and asked me if there was a western union near by. He then asked me to call another number 206-201-2606 to speak to a man named Mike Kelvin. Kelvin would then instruct me on how to collect my 9000 in cash with some confirmation number. Totally creepy! This group needs to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law!!!

Same as the rest here. Male caller said he was from the US Department of Grants. Heavy accent, lots of background noise, so it was difficult to understand him. Offered me a grant of $9000 for being a good and loyal citizen, defined as one who paid my bills and taxes, and never declared backruptcy. I let him run through his spiel, just waiting for him to ask for account information, and sure enough, he said I could receive the money through a bank transfer or on a credit card. I said, "The federal government is going to credit my credit card account for $9000?" He said yes, and I knew this was a scam. When he asked whether I wanted the money on my credit card or bank account, I told him to send me a check. He said they couldn't do that. I said I think this is bulls*** and you're a scammer, then hung up on him.
