They will say the government has awarded you with a large sum of money and try to get you back account number or credit card number. If you don't provide they will say they can give you the money from money gram but you need to send $287 first to verify that it's you. They then proceed to say that you CAN NOT tell money gram that you're receiving money from the government, tell them, "you're sending money to a friend." once you call their bluff they hang up on you.

This number belongs to a M&T Bank out of Washington DC area. But I don't think its a real branch cause there are too many addresses for the one phone number. Isn't it quite ironic that this is being carried on in the place we think of as the heart & soul of this great country. Kinda makes you wonder what's really going on?

I asked the man for his federal ID and he hung up. This is almost better than the windows IT scammers.

Yesterday I received a call telling me I had been selected to receive a $9000 grant based on my good payment history within the last 12 months. So as I continued to listen to this call I felt kind of strange since I never win anything. The guy was reading from a script and was Arabic so it was kind of difficult to follow him so I asked his name he said ADAM SMITH... MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS SCAM!!! So as he continued he told me I was not to do anything but to call this number 202-697-6510 and give them a Fed ID # and they will instruct me from there. I had 5-10 to 45 min to two days to return this call. (Hmm scam alert #2 ) and then he asked me my name and state and zip code. Then said the dept of treasury will need to know how I would like my money in a check or money order, bank checking in or savings acct or in a credit card and how I Plan to use this money once I get it? Will it be used for vacation, education, home improvements etc (scam alert #3) he then tried to express to me that it was absolutely free money and that I would never have to pay it back so I could spend it as I wished! So I began to question is this a scam? He assured me oh no ma'am THIS IS NO WAY A SCAM OBAMA IS GIVING THESE FUNDS AWAY? (Really?.). Then he asks my age (scam alert #4).
So he says hurry and dial the # and be sure to give the Fed Id#. So I call iD myself said i was given this # about a govt grant and I get another foreign voice this time female. She asked if if I'm calling to receive the $9K grant $$. may I have your Fed ID # please when I give it she replies it hasn't come over yet can I put u on hold (scam alert #5) she comes back with what was that # again oh here it is an ma'am what is your name ... I gave it she says I need to go to CVS OR 7-11 and purchase a green dot GO FAX for $180 then call her back (scam alert #6) I SAID REALLY WHY SHE SAID THE DEPT OF TREASURY needs to be able to know where to send the $9000 to .... Ummm I told this woman I don't think this is how the govt grant program works!!! Why must I send you anything to be approved for a govt grant??? DO U KNOW THIS IS AGAINST THE LAW!!!! She hung up!!!! DON'T FALL FOR THIS SCAM!!! $180 at 7-11 or CVS IS A DONATION TO A SCAM ARTIST NOT A GOVT GRANT for $9000

Received call from this phone number this morning; and the caller indicated he worked for the Federal Government Grants Department; and that I qualify for a grant. I immediately began laughing, indicating to the man that I knew this was a scam. When he tried to tell me his call was legitimate, I asked him to tell me my name (if I qualified for a grant, he should have access to my personal name). He hung up, because he knew I was on to him! I then blocked this number from my phone. They are violating the Do Not Call Registry, and I have an unlisted phone number. These scammers need money for Christmas, so they don't care if they are breaking the law or hurting innocent victims. I have never fallen for one of these scams, and just laugh at them when they call me. I just don't want them hurting anyone.

Please, if you've gotten a call from this number, or from any number from anyone impersonating a federal officer or agent trying to get personal information or money, please call the FTC's fraud line at 877-FTC-HELP (877.382.4357), or complete a short report at https://www.ftccomplaintassistant.gov/#crnt&panel1-1 (under identity fraud). These are serious federal and state crimes.

Have received several calls from this number, all people with thick accents and heavily slurred speech. An obvious scam, the "Office of Government Grants" or some such fiction wants to give me $6000 to $9000 for paying bills on time or not having been arrested and then, assuming they can stop tripping over their own tongue, eventually ask how I want to recieve the money, either by giving them checking account or credit card number to send a "direct deposit". When told I want them to mail me a check, they hang up.

Three times now they have cussed me out with very obscene things when I interior them to say no. I feel very harassed.

This is a dial out only number. You can not return calls to it because it is inaccessible. It goes through a computer dial out system.

This is why the scammer has to have you call his ''Manager' at another number to complete the transaction of you receiving your $7,000 government grant.

I kept getting that same kind of call. Couldn't understand hardly anything they said. But something about me receiving a government grant for $10,000. Before they could ask me anymore questions, I told her that I could not make out anything that she said. I told her to have someone call that could speak English. Later that day someone else called from unknown number, i answered it just to find out who it was. You have been collected for a Government Grant in the amount of $10,000. I got so mad that i started screaming at him and know him that there was no kind of government grant that i need. And not to call this number again or I am going to report you. I didn't get any more calls untill today. Scammers.

This number called my personal cell and asked for my mother in law by name. When I said this is not her number and they may not call here again the guy actually had the nerve to say "F*** you" to me. I said "excuse me?" and he hung up. I tried to call back to report to a supervisor about their unprofessionalism and all I got was a message in a foreign language and then it said "this is not an American number.
