I have the same experience on carsales.com.au. Does anyone know what they can actually do? I assume you check PayPal and see the funds then give the car to the "private courier" and then what, the money is reversed out? I don't understand the scam.

Thanks to this forum, I did not email after reading info posted on this forum! Also it is apparent that Solomona has different numbers. When looked up on http://www.160.com.au/mobile_lookup.php +61 437 275 190 is from Telstra network. May be Telstra can do something about this.

Thanks heaps for bring this up on the forum and please keep posting if you receive similar emails. This will help with keeping these fraudulent people at bay.

same e-mail scam with me yesterday.

he/ she has transferred the money (extra included for my trouble), so i went to Western Union, deposited the Money for his agent, but told him I have done it through their International Central Clearance department, which requires a phone call with identity check, full name, contact number , ID number ( the Number on the Paypal e-mail) and they call back in 5 minutes to confirm transfer.

Gave the 1 contact number ....... he / she, may be surprised when the local fraud squad answer the phone. Would love to know if they ever make the call !

Some idiot called me just now to say they had been informed there was a minor car accident reported at my address from two years ago!!!

Caller name: Solomona Ulu

Mathew.
Don't you get it , the money never goes through Paypal, and your car / boat will never be collected by any courier. He does not want your car/ boat, just your money.
He will pay you "extra" for the courier then ask you to pay the courier by western Union transfer.

the scam is that people will do it on the confirmation e-mail from "Paypal" which says that it is on it's way and irrevocably confirmed.

"They" cannot do anything, but obviously there are people out there stupid enough to fall for this, and act on a confirmation mail from paypal, rather than seeing the actual money in their account.

If it was not working in some way, they would not keep going. Never underestimate the gullibility of people.

By the way .... odd fact, if you say "gullible" really fast ..... it sounds like "strawberries" .................. see what I mean ?

People,
I had a a similar experience with this same scammer a month or so ago , I didn't respond but looked the phone number up on google, To turn the tables and create an annoyance for Solomona, I had some spare time so I took the time and contacted all the mobile oh providers I could remember and suggested to them that if this phone number is provided by them then their network is being used by a scammer and a lot of evidence is available to this by putting the name and number into Google, I must say I got an interesting result from Vodafone who seemed very interested and thanked me for bringing the matter to their attention, even though they wouldn't tell me but perhaps solomona was a Vida phone customer, since he now chooses to use gmail, I will now raise the issue with gmail? Keep reporting him to who ever you can and he wil need to constantly change services.

I emailed him back and reminded him the same scam often includes someone working on an aircraft carrier or an oil rig, and thanked him for trying. Haven't heard back yet?

We received a general email today after an advertisement on carsguide.com.au. When we responded to confirm that the car was still for sale, we received the below email which is pretty close to a carbon copy that others on this page have also received.

It all sounded a bit too good to be true so I thought I would firstly check "linked in" given that the person claimed to be a marine engineer, and after no luck finding them, I did a general google search and thankfully came across this site.

Thanks to this site, we avoided any further contact with this person !!

Unfortunately, I think we may have also been scammed from our Gumtree post by "Steve/ Steven" who is also mentioned on this page. We were initially contacted via text message advising they were keen to buy the car for cash (site unseen), so we immediately called the number and it was answered by a guy called Steve. After a discussion on the phone, the person sounded quite legitimate so we arranged a viewing for the next day, however "Steve" never turned up. We immediately rang the number and not surprisingly, the phone was never answered and messages were not responded to.

Hello,

Thanks for the swift response, I need you to understand that i am
willing and ready to purchase it right away as i really appreciate the
price stated in the AD, however i will like you to re-confirm the
price by stating it in your return e-mail for verification, possibly
have more pictures of it, put it off the AD site and consider me as
your favorite buyer as i am buying this for my Dad and due to the
nature of my job and my present location as i am a marine engineer...i
will not be able to come for inspection,i'm a very busy type as i work
long hours everyday,i have gone through your advertisement and i am
satisfied with it.

As for the payment..i can only pay via the fastest and secure way to
pay online i.e (PayPal) here, as i do not have access to my bank
account online, but i have it attached to my pay pal account, and this
is why i insisted on using pay pal to pay.

I have a private courier agent that will come for the pick up after
the payment has been made ...so no shipping included and With the
issue of my details, transferring the name of ownership and signing of
all paperwork will be done by the courier services company agent so
you don't have to worry about that as I will be providing you with my
drivers licence. It will be so sweet if you can send me your PayPal
email now so i can
pay in right away and also include your address in your reply as i
don't really have much time on here.If you don't have a paypal
account, you can easily set up one...log on to www.paypal.com.au and

back to me with your bank details... i would have loved to talk to you
on phone
but i work mainly on the sea and our phone network is down on the sea
right now due to bad stormy weather, that was why i sent you a text, i
even wonder how my message delivered to your phone but for now we can
only communicate through the same mailing channel.await your reply
asap.

This person(s) is still running the same scam. Once again, shortly after placing a car sales ad on Drive.com.au and carsales.com.au, they texted me requesting further contact through an email address, solomona009@gmail.com. The content of their email is identical to ones already posted on this site, namely:
