Caller name: dunno
This number keeps calling me, sometimes twice a day. I get a dial tone when I phone them back. I loath these people. If I want to buy something I will come to the seller. This is a good arguement in favour of bringing back the death penalty.
This number rings 2/3 times a day despite having TPS THE ONE TIME WE DID ANSWER IT, IT WAS A OBVIOUSLY A CALL CENTRE WITH SO MUCH CHATTER IN THE BACKGROUND THEY WERE UNABLE TO BE HEARD NOW WE JUST IGNORE IT BUT VERY ANNOYING TO HAVE IT SO OFTEN.
Caller name: BT
said he was representing BT and assured me I was to get no more nuisance calls. After confirming my name and address wanted me to give credit card expiry date then he hung up after I flatly refused despite a few attempts at convincing me it was OK to do so.
Caller name: Kitchen Scrappage Scheme
Call is in the UK and is pre recorded advising about a Kitchen Scrappage Scheme. Although I pressed the number to opt of this I now realise it was a mistake as it doesn't stop them.
Caller name: BT?
These people keep ringing saying that they are calling from BT and updating their service and need to know my postcode and name. I did not give it, they are Indian speaking and today he said my name is "Paul Smith" !? This is obviously a scam of some sort but I dont know what, does anyone else.
Caller name: world wide web.net
Called yesterday and said there was a problem with my computer and if I turned it on and went online they would sort it out. I knew it was a scam and told him, a chap with an Asian accent that I was busy and to ring back later. He was very instant that I should turn on my computer and sort it out there and then which I didn't. Scammers have not rung back yet but sure they will, don't fall for it tel them to go away.
Caller name: Window Scrappage Scheme
I have had umpteen calls for Windows and Kitchens Scrappage etc.
This time I intercepted the blurb by pressing 8 straightaway. Surprise, Surprise, the caller reverted to "my number will be removed" - but I don't believe it.
However, also to my surprise, I managed to obtain the number by dialing 1471. I did not return the call - thought I'd google it instead : there are no double 00's for legit UK Numbers.
Have had several calls from this number but do not answer as I have set my phone to show the only the few international calls I really want from rellies or friends.
My advice to all is, if you do not recognise the calling number, dont answer. Any legit caller will always leave a message.
Caller name: Not Known
People, don't call them back to see who they are, it just costs you money. I find it hard to believe a scammer can call you and cause your handset to dial them back automatically, I would love to see the technical details of how they could open the switch on your telephone remotely. If this were possible, why would a scammer do it? Think about who gets paid in this scenario.
TPS can't do anything if the tossers are outside the UK, they get enough mugs to go along with them to justify the cold calling abuse. BT can't do anything about it as they are simply the carrier and they don't know who the number is allocated to at the originating end, a scam number could be reallocated legitimately or the scammers may be spoofing the number anyway.
You have a few options:
1. Just hang up on them
2. String them along with total c**p. If they are surveying for sales leads then the people buying the leads will eventually stop using them if all the survey data collected is garbage.
3. Don't answer calls with the same number, I used CLID and put the numbers in my phone book as Scammer.
4. Invest in a caller blocking phone. The BT 6500 or 7510 seems to do the job quite well according to the reviews. Also the Panasonic KX-TG 8062. I am looking at these myself.
Hope this helps someone reading this list.
