Caller name: dunno
This number keeps calling me, sometimes twice a day. I get a dial tone when I phone them back. I loath these people. If I want to buy something I will come to the seller. This is a good arguement in favour of bringing back the death penalty.
This number rings 2/3 times a day despite having TPS THE ONE TIME WE DID ANSWER IT, IT WAS A OBVIOUSLY A CALL CENTRE WITH SO MUCH CHATTER IN THE BACKGROUND THEY WERE UNABLE TO BE HEARD NOW WE JUST IGNORE IT BUT VERY ANNOYING TO HAVE IT SO OFTEN.
Caller name: BT
said he was representing BT and assured me I was to get no more nuisance calls. After confirming my name and address wanted me to give credit card expiry date then he hung up after I flatly refused despite a few attempts at convincing me it was OK to do so.
Caller name: Kitchen Scrappage Scheme
Call is in the UK and is pre recorded advising about a Kitchen Scrappage Scheme. Although I pressed the number to opt of this I now realise it was a mistake as it doesn't stop them.
Caller name: BT?
These people keep ringing saying that they are calling from BT and updating their service and need to know my postcode and name. I did not give it, they are Indian speaking and today he said my name is "Paul Smith" !? This is obviously a scam of some sort but I dont know what, does anyone else.
Caller name: world wide web.net
Called yesterday and said there was a problem with my computer and if I turned it on and went online they would sort it out. I knew it was a scam and told him, a chap with an Asian accent that I was busy and to ring back later. He was very instant that I should turn on my computer and sort it out there and then which I didn't. Scammers have not rung back yet but sure they will, don't fall for it tel them to go away.
Caller name: Window Scrappage Scheme
I have had umpteen calls for Windows and Kitchens Scrappage etc.
This time I intercepted the blurb by pressing 8 straightaway. Surprise, Surprise, the caller reverted to "my number will be removed" - but I don't believe it.
However, also to my surprise, I managed to obtain the number by dialing 1471. I did not return the call - thought I'd google it instead : there are no double 00's for legit UK Numbers.
Have had several calls from this number but do not answer as I have set my phone to show the only the few international calls I really want from rellies or friends.
My advice to all is, if you do not recognise the calling number, dont answer. Any legit caller will always leave a message.
Caller name: Not Known
People, don't call them back to see who they are, it just costs you money. I find it hard to believe a scammer can call you and cause your handset to dial them back automatically, I would love to see the technical details of how they could open the switch on your telephone remotely. If this were possible, why would a scammer do it? Think about who gets paid in this scenario.
TPS can't do anything if the tossers are outside the UK, they get enough mugs to go along with them to justify the cold calling abuse. BT can't do anything about it as they are simply the carrier and they don't know who the number is allocated to at the originating end, a scam number could be reallocated legitimately or the scammers may be spoofing the number anyway.
You have a few options:
1. Just hang up on them
2. String them along with total c**p. If they are surveying for sales leads then the people buying the leads will eventually stop using them if all the survey data collected is garbage.
3. Don't answer calls with the same number, I used CLID and put the numbers in my phone book as Scammer.
4. Invest in a caller blocking phone. The BT 6500 or 7510 seems to do the job quite well according to the reviews. Also the Panasonic KX-TG 8062. I am looking at these myself.
Hope this helps someone reading this list.
Caller name: None. Silent Call
This number calls us every day. Fortunately we have caller display and its shows as INTERNATIONAL so don't answer anymore. However, when we used to answer it was just a silent call every time.
.Rang my land line today but rang off when I answered. This was particularly annoying as I had had a restless night and was trying to catch up on some lost sleep. Why are the regulating bodies so impotent when it comes to stamping out nuisance calls?
just receved a recorded call on my landline from this number 0012102490540 about ppi and banks. I am already registered with the telephone protection service and cannot understand why my phone number is available for these people to ring, is there any point to registering your number on the TPS?
This number called me today and the recorded message advised me to "press 5" if I have not yet received my payment protection money or "press 9" if I have! I am not claiming anything from anyone so I guess this is a scam!
These parasites are the bane of modern living and we should be able to block numbers from all of our phones!
I didn't answer the 'phone, but later googled the number to see if I should add it to my list of bogus numbers I keep by the 'phone. It actually came up on caller display as an International call but also showed the number being dialled from, which international calls never do (unless this has just changed?)
Caller name: "Windows Technical Department"
An Indian sounding man saying "This is Windows Technical Department. I am calling about your computer". I did not listen any further, just laughed loudly down the phone at him and hung up, which is what everybody should do. They will of course try to get you to give them remote access, and either lock you out and hold your computer to ransom, or install malware, spyware, add you to a botnet, or all of the above. Don't talk to them at all.
Caller name: not known
Received a call from this no. @ 11.12, 11th March. No message was left on the answerphone. It was not a number which I recognised but having read the above comments I shall not be contacting this number!
Caller name: Never spoke
Silent call - I could hear noise in the background, but they hung up after a few seconds. Although I'm registered with TPS, this number has called me on at least a dozen previous occasions when I've been out.
You know what to do - don't just grumble on sites like this, report it to the ICO so that the authorities can take take action!
10:49 on unlisted, TPS registered number.
Answerphone is full with 42 silent calls - possibly them from a different number.
0012102490540 - appears as a US number, which means you would pay international rates to find out who they are.
As Colin says report it to ICO or OFCOM
Caller name: Sharon, Employee No.W3071 from Windows Service Centre, London
Said my computer had downloaded viruses from internet sites I had visited.
Fortunately did not switch on my computer as requested by her, so that she could rectify the matter. She is 'phoning back tomorrow to speak to my son as I said it was his computer
At age 83 how can I stop these people from constantly ringing me when I am registered with TPS...
Caller name: Christine
Called me to say she was from Microsoft and that I had to turn on my computer to stop some bug or something or else I would be in big trouble if I didn't all my stuff would be robbed online said she had a computer serial number to give me when I pressed her about being from Microsoft . Laughed and told her I didn't believe her but she still tried it on a bit ,sounded oriental. Chinese or something , they must be trying to take advantage of this Zeus game bug thing .
Asked me if I was Mrs Crosby - I said no and the phone went dead. Also got a call saying they were from my bank with important information and then asked me my name and got recorded music.
I phoned my bank and they hadn't called me.
How do these people get my name and number?
