the first time they called, I answered their questions and they determined that I was not the person they were looking for. They called again and they were told to stop calling. She told me that my phone number would be placed on a do not call but they called again. MAKE THEM STOP PLEASE !!!!!!!
If you receive a call from an unknown number and they leave an automated voicemail telling you to call back a number and enter a reference number DO NOT call them back.
I got a call today from a 651 area code number. I usually don’t answer to numbers I don’t know so I let it roll to voicemail. They left a an automated voicemail telling me it was from Verizon and that I needed to call a 800 number back immediately to discuss changes to my account and that I needed to enter a reference number.
We hear of so many scams, especially as technology evolves. So I was very suspicious of this and instead of calling the number they gave me, I called *611 to reach customer service from my Verizon phone.
Customer service confirmed everything is good with my account, that there are no changes and last time anyone from Verizon called me was April 28.
At this point I’m pretty sure that “reference number” they asked me to enter on that voicemail is actually a command to give malicious people access to my money or information.
So, if this happens to you, PLEASE call Verizon at *611 – DO NOT call any other number and DO NOT, under any circumstance, enter any “reference number.”
Got the same automated VM message telling me it was from Verizon and that I needed to call 877-403-0835 immediately to discuss changes to my account - and the reference number they gave was my own cell phone number. After reading the comments here I did not call back.
Automated message that went to voicemail -- Claiming to be Verizon Wireless and said there was a status change on my account and to call them at the 877 number. They gave me a reference number as my own cell number. Well guess what... I work for Verizon and there is no such thing as what this scammer/fraudster is doing. There is nothing wrong with your account -- do not call these people back. They are trying to take your information from you. Reported to VZW and FCC.
I won't answer calls from unknown callers. The last couple of days, I am getting a morning, afternoon and evening call from various different 313 area code numbers. The automated voice message tells me to call Verizon at 877 403 0835 and enter my cell number as reference. Direct contact with Verizon showed no problems. Scam! I will not call that number. I would block them, but the calls keep coming from different numbers.
Just got a call/message from a (703) area code automated voicemail was to call the (877) with my refernce number aka phone number. I decided to mess with them and called the (703) back, the answer was automated telling me to put my phone number in, so i dialed 703-123-4567, the automated person said something must be wrong, sorry try calling back later at the same (703). I believe a REAL customer service line would send you to a live person if they were having issues with their automated system?
Contacted Verizon using *611, they looked up the 800 number and verified that it's a number associated with bloomington college wherever that is. It is a scam A. to get you to pay them by placing the call. B. Cellphone Number clone. C. To created a database of phone numbers. D. Used in conjunction with a logic bomb to disrupt Verizon's users. E. College phone hacker. F. To integrate with the already capability to tap verizon phones which should not be an issue because most operate with a google product and google has made it clear that their products are not to be used for ease dropping.
Automated message that went to voicemail -- Claiming to be Verizon Wireless and said there was a status change on my account and to call them at the this 877 number. They gave me a reference number which is my cell number. Based on comments I did not return call. Thank you!
Automated call from a different number left a message to call this 877 number regarding a status change on my wifes account and to enter her number when prompted --- She brought it to my attention - I aptly dialed *611 instead -- The Verizon rep said there were no issues with the account, no status changes or updates and she even checked the 877 number herself. She said it appears to be a "message delivery system" but Verizon does not use third-parties for relaying messages and that it was most likely a scam of some sort. She noted the account that we were called by this potential scam number and advised us against calling it.
Automated call to my cell phone 3x today. I don't answer calls that I don't recognize. The recording had my correct name and that the caller(s) had to speak to me IMMEDIATELY (yah right).
I was to enter a "special reference number" so I wrote it down...then I realized it was MY cell number.
My quess it they are phishing for valid cell numbers, or entering my cell number would give them access to something or enable them to bill me for something.
SO...DON'T CALL THEM BACK !!!
Same story as above. Repeated calls for a couple of weeks from same area code, different numbers each time. Finally left a voicemail (I don't answer unfamiliar calls). Said it was Verizon and that the status of my account had changed, told me(by name) to call this 877 number and enter my reference number (my phone #). Sounded fishy.
