Well, they're certainly making the rounds. I got a call from them, but did not pick up as it was not only an an unknown number but out of state, and now I'm glad I didn't. Thank you all for taking the time to post your experiences and for your sleuthing. I pray they're not getting any gullible people with this silly scam.
i got a phone call at 11:32 am saying that i was being rewarded with 9000 dollars of federal grant money for having no past bankruptcy, no criminal record and asked me for my credit/debit card number and that the money would be in my account in 15 minutes this is a scam and they need to quit stuff like that..its ridiculous i have 3 kids and really thought i was getting a grant from the government i could have really use that money if it was real but yes everyone it is a SCAM!!!!!
Same as above..told me I had received a $9000 grant, and didn't have to pay it back. This is the second time I have received this call on my cell. I asked him to remove my number from their list..He said, do you think I am a telemarketer and I said yes and hung up.
Same story as everyone else, let the guy get through his script and he told me I could get the funds in a bank transfer, credit card or gift card. I said "send me a gift card". He said he couldn't do that. I asked him why and he said the only options were a bank transfer or credit card transfer and it had to be something with more than a 0 balance or negative balance.
I then asked him if he f*****g thought I was so goddamned stupid as to give him banking information over the telephone. He didn't have an answer and hung up.
Sounds like they've been busy this month. They called my cell with the same story, from the US Government in Washington DC, I was selected to receive $9000 to my bank account or debit card for having no criminal histroy or bancruptcy. The thick accent was the first red flag. It sounded like he was in a far away country...everything I said, echoed back to me after a pause. I said to him, "So you think I'm going to give you my bank account or credit card number? He got irritated and said I could go buy a prepaid card with zero balance and they would put it on that. When I said, "How about I just go to the government website and do through there"?, he hung up. Good riddance!
I just got a call yesterday from the same number. It was the lady with the thick accent. She was hard to understand. Told me the same thing about being a good citizen and the $9000. They wanted my bank information. I told her I didn't have it and I asked her for a number that I could call them back later. She of course didn't give me anything, but said she would call me back today. How do these people get our numbers?
3/22/13 - Just received a call on my cell phone - I asked who this was and all she said was the US Government - I told her the call was unwanted and to remove me from her call list - she kept asking who I was and I would not tell her. Please have this person investigated.
Had to repeat himself numerous times. Foreign, and I could not understand anything he said other than calling from U.S. Dept of___? and something about a government grant of $9,000. He stumbled on words over and over when i asked him how did he get my number. Told him not interested and do not call back.
woman with an accent was trying to tell me that I qualified for some grant monies from the government. I could tell that it wasn't legit right from the start but let her think she was getting banking info from me and told her I would get the numbers. She waited and after about 10 seconds I SCREEAAAMED into the phone and she hung up. I hope that she can't hear anymore and stops trying to scam people.
Called me Saturday, 3/23/13, after a pause man with think Indian accent said he was from the U.S. Federal Government and wanted to talk to me about grants. I hung up, obviously a scam (Fed Govt would not call an individual, nor are any Fed Govt offices open on weekends, nor does any government give you a "grant" for absolutely no reason, etc.)
